Enabled or disabled features are important. Heating management is important. Many many things matter. If different brand phones use the same hardware battery will be almost the same. As for only Samsung it depends which model. My A52 has great battery life. Also forgot to add your usage matters too. If you are a heavy gamer of course battery will die quickly. And important to add that Samsung is great now. It gives great software and support which most brands won't give you.

Super Android 22, 31 Mar 2023I thought thats what i was talking about, didnt mean to mak... moreThose gestures you mentioned they mostly exist on my phone as well but those are when the screen is off. How is someone going to increase or decrease volume when the display is on ? For example while watching video, can't use screen gestures then. Unless they implement something like swipe up and down for volume and brightness like some apps have. But again, that's just one scenario. Hence, buttons are required. It's quick and easy. What apple is doing is changing their hardware. The basic function and their positioning will remain as it is. I assume apple is doing this for better design and improved IP rating and of course, it's an iPhone so it'll have certain features that are different than all other phones. That's the part that makes an iPhone, an iPhone

[deleted post]What HTC did was to put a feature on a phone and abandon it afterwards. Basically what Android makers do all the time i.e introduce a feature or an all new design language on a phone then completely abandon it or change it for the upcoming version. Neither are those features refined nor properly implemented. And most likely, they are just for a limited number of models if ever. And there are plenty of examples of such poorly implemented and half baked experimental features on Android phones
They are bound to fail in that scenario
Apple here is going to perform thorough r&d before implementing it and most likely it'll stay on the iPhone Pro models and gradually maybe it'll be standard on all iPhone models as well. That's the difference

Anonymous, 31 Mar 2023They are talking about gestures that are for navigating aro... moreI thought thats what i was talking about, didnt mean to make out im having a go or saying they are wrong, was curious why they thought that.
Personally i think apple could implement a gesture to turn the flash light on while its locked, They could make a gesture that activates power saving mode or mute the phone. Also most the gestures im talking about all android phones probably have just a different way to activate the same thing, the point of them is to not need to press buttons (which apple are basically redesigning the buttons to do things that can be sorted via software).
I can press the top of my screen to scroll to the top of a web page, activate my flashlight a second its out of my pocket (i needed to today so my mate could look in the engine bay, no need to unlock my phone or even turn the screen on or touch any buttons), i can change app by swiping on a bar at the bottom of my screen, loads within a second and no having to press even software based buttons and these features are built in to android not my device specifically (im sure apple does have its own gesture based interactions eco system).
The buttons wont be swapping web pages or ringing people for you, i dont think anyway itll just be used for shortcuts (my phone doesnt need a co processor to do these things). Thats my point, its like trying to redesign the wheel just to, what looks like, increase the overall cost of the device when A. Tactile buttons work fine and B. We have software based gestures that act as shortcuts too.
Only my opinion though im not saying its wrong i just personally dont really see a point to spend millions on R&D and manufacturing on something that a few coders could implement in to ios directly.

0odle-noodle, 31 Mar 2023its not innovation, its impractical. this isn't gonna ... moreApple can just continue with regular buttons, instead of going with solid state where it's going to cost them a lot more for all the R&D, hardware cost and software integration, refinement, etc. They are doing it to advance the smartphones in a better way. The future is wireless, buttonless and port-less, also the design will improve and so will water resistance
The question here is about how will cases work with this new type of buttons

Wait till Android Phone OEMs pump out devices like pancakes with this feature once released. Realme/ Xiaomi will have to clash again for who gets it first.

[deleted post]Probably, realme are copying the camera island so probably see all flagships going either solid state buttons and/or the island because we know it'll increase pricing and it'll become a feature everyone wants (the realme phone with the camera island is selling pretty well).

Anonymous, 31 Mar 2023Gestures are silly things. Explain why? Quick access to things even with the screen off that improve the usability of the phone arent really silly. I use my phone with gestures only and its been a far more efficent way to do things (and my phone recognises the inputs eveytime).
My phone can do a V for flashlight on and off, O to open the camera, 3 fingers down i think for screenshot, can screen record i think and basically every input i need without touching a button and the screen being off or on so again way more efficient way to use a phone and doesnt need buttons to be re designed or added co processors to make sure you can still use the phone (which can go wrong still so you'll have an un useable phone if it goes wrong).

You can't just say the new phone is 20% more powerful with a bit better camera to sell it for this long since that is what they are doing for sometimes now. Last year they finally removed the notch for a pill that's even more distracting but it was something different so people bought it. This year is this button which can easily be replaced with those multi level shutter buttons or a separate button like old iphones had. Its just polishing the turd and i can bet fanboys will come up with reasons why it's better than old buttons. Also knowing Apple, if that button breaks, it will now cost as much as a new phone to replace.

Bigmeme, 31 Mar 2023Get ready... all Android manufacturers will copy this from 2025Theoretically its been done with buttonless phone (xiaomi or vivo or someone like that). Not sure the phone was released but it has definitely been done already just not solid state buttons.
