Weekly poll results: port-less phones may be an unfortunate future, according to most

25 June 2023
Few are enthusiastic about this possible future, but hopes that the EU will prevent it may be barking up the wrong tree.

iPhone users actually don’t have to worry. iPhones will never be portless, because stupid iOS requires connection to PC/Mac when it encounters problems (aka DFU mode). This is in contrast with Android that has its own recovery mode. So I can see Android phones go portless first (I think Xiaomi tried it).

Still the same story. Those who actually buy phones decided that they don't need ancient technology and they want to move forward to much better things. Those of you who insist on having old tech, remained in a minority too small to be relevant.

Both phones for its time had the best camera, best battery, best screen, Pen support, and best processor. Except the older one is much more durable. Has a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microSD slot, an IrDa Blaster, and a User Removable Battery. The older model has a cult following, and an active software community.... the newer one is dreaded by phone enthusiasts. Not to mention the older model, whilst expensive, was fairly affordable and great value for money.... the newer one is a rip-off and is unaffordable for most people.

The objective fact is that these older devices (that you make fun of) were actually superior in many ways, they were better value, and was much more consumer-friendly. The newer and newer models have shifted to maximise profit-margins and revenue to the corporation.

If you insist, be my guest. Mention just one phone with at least SD 8gen1 or M8000, 6.7" screen or larger, officially support android 12 or later, has great camera, has sdcard slot + 3.5mm jack, and availability as global as Samsung & iPhone.

Im not against portless as long there's a replacement that has no drawback vs wired.
As you can see there's a lot of drawback about wireless charging from energy efficiency transfer and heat generation(wireless generate more heat that wired).
Instead of wireless im thinking about magnetic pin charger(i think vivo done it in prototype phone) and magnetic pin to 3.5mm jack if its possible or a magnetic sd card reader or a magnetic pin to usb a or c. so it a win win + improve water resistant (not waterproof, those are two different things)

Ports will change but never go away. Wire is something that can't be killed, because the wire is the only stable reliable source. And if you think that wireless will ever replace wires, you have no idea how networks and technology all together works. Wireless is a small convinience in small appliaces, not a replacement and will never be one.

Ports will not go away, even for the simple fact that devices need to be flashed or reflashed, when bricked. If the manufacturers do that, then they need a proprietary implementation of accessing the device so it can be flashed, and that i am pretty sure it will make EU send the manufacturers some salty fines per mail.
And what would all of this bring the manufacturer anyway? Besides more useless work.

Literally no company make same phone model but one with sdcard/3.5mm included, and one without. If there is, only then we can say customers have a choice. Like I said, I was forced because there's no other choice.
The polls here is only for people who care, that is obvious.
But that's the only way to find out people's preferences. There's no way gsmarena travel around the world and ask real buyers in front of phone shops, that is also obvious.

What matters is what customers say. And their choice is obvious. Out of 10 best selling smartphones 8 don't have jack and card. And no, the two remaining are not on first two place.
Even in countries where Sony sells their phones people don't buy it. Instead they take S series or iPhones. The poll has already been decided by those whose only voice matters - the real buyers.
