08 July 2023
The phones are expected later this year with new chipsets and cameras. Once again, the best improvements will be reserved for the Pro model.

There have been realtime raytracing demos (not games) running well on much less hardware like Vega 56. My read is that dev studios are just not willing to put the effort into redoing their graphics engines from the ground up.

ISOCELL GN2 is the same camera sensor Xiaomi used for the Mi 11 Ultra, so this should be interesting. It's also interesting to see the vanilla model gets the same 120Hz screen treatment as the Pro model. What I anticipate, though, is the alleged wired video output support, which is something that should be available since the very first Pixel phone.

Personally for me the Google Pixel 6a and the Xiaomi Mi A3 were my favorite size. The 7a is a little big, but if the 8 is the same screen size with smaller bezels then I can consider buying the main Pixel instead of waiting on the A. I already have a 7a as my main phone for reference.

they are more of an advertising giant that uses spied out customer data and search behaviour to place unwanted ads!

First thing to do when this phone launches. Check all the reviews specifically for modem and connectivity related issues. Every else matters post that.

Anonymous, 09 Jul 2023If the tradeoff is a flat screen then yeah worth it. Flat screens are cheaper, so even if they made it 1440p, it would still be cheaper than the display of the Pixel 7 Pro, so no it's not worth it.

Google will profit more tho, so I guess it's great for them.

MRSTEK, 09 Jul 2023We find someone w/ microscopic eyes here!I just simply don't like pointless downgrades, it was 1440p last year, so why make it 1080p+ this year?

Aoi Akane, 09 Jul 2023You know you can switch down the resolution to 1080p, right... moreYou absolutely can, I can do that on my vivo X Note too, which I would never do, that's not where my issue lies with this.

However you can't switch it up to 1440p+, if it's not a QHD+ display.

My problem with this new resolution is, that it's too high for a 1080p+ display, and too low for a 1440p display.

Anonymous, 08 Jul 2023It's 490 PPI. It's very sharp. And? The Pixel 7 Pro is sharper and is an actual 1440p display, downgrades are never appreciated, especially not on flagship phones.

I wish pixel 8 was even a bit smaller to match the size of S23 or iphone 14, but anyway, 6.17" is already in the acceptable region in my book.

From my half year experience with a pixel 7, the phone performs well in everything I need. Good battery life, great cameras, smooth animations. Would it be even better with a Qualcomm SoC and TSMC foundry? Perhaps, but since it is already good enough, I don't care.

If it was a rebadged exynos, it would've had AMD GPU and lacked Google's NPU. The only things making it closer to exynos is a Samsung modem and Samsung foundry, the CPU and GPU designs are standard ARM, which Mediatek and Qualcomm also use.
