It's not for me either, but it does have a market. Is it small? Yeah, most likely and that's partially why the phone is so expensive.

It took ages for them to get out. And nope, better late than never, can't be used as excuse. Because it was always late.

No thanks Fairphone way too expensive for what it is I am not paying that for essentially a mediocre device I fail to see the justification for such a price in a device like this people who pay this for that thing needs to give there head a shake.

Too bad that it once again omits the headphone jack and that the camera is absolute garbage. Who cares about repairability and 8 years of updates when the hardware is already just bad?

As someone who prefers to buy a phone every 4 years, I am delighted to see more companies giving us options of "sustainable" phones (in terms of OS support). However, because my region is not listed under EU, this means the chance of me actually being able to own one of these phones is almost 0.
I really love the concept of a phone we could "repair" ourselves.

Anonymous, 31 Aug 2023OLED 90Hz 1224p screen, Snapdragon 782G, 50MP 1/1.56" ... moreIf Fairphone would sell the new model for €200 more than the Fairphone 4, they might consider using a 120Hz OLED screen or Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. But €700 for a phone with ten years of software support and 10/10 repairability is hard to come by. People might not accept it now, but they eventually will when other large popular brands, especially Samsung and Apple, start to follow suit. It's only a matter of time, really.

Even though it still doesn't have the headphone jack and is only restricted to the EU market, this is a massive upgrade over the last-gen model. I find it surprising to see a larger screen without making any changes to the overall dimension. Not many phones can do that.

OLED 90Hz 1224p screen, Snapdragon 782G, 50MP 1/1.56" main camera, and 4200mAh battery, all for €120 more than the Fairphone 4? At this point, I can't even see the point of taking last-gen model. All those upgrades should cost at least €200 more.

That would require some form of standardisation for chip-set sizes. However I would suggest to get in touch with them via their contact channels on the website and propose this solution. That would indeed be even better but the is a fault in this logic called "design". People have been brainwashed to be sensible to design and beauty (even if sometimes I wonder if some designs are beautiful). Today, there is a trend in terms of smartphone designs but we all know that it changes every x years. That would mean that people might not be eager to buy newer inner hardware to upgrade an "old" chassis.
