Fair phone is making a great effort but there are established players in the smartphone market. At this price point point it is hard to attract customers.

Plus not treating their workers like shit. You might not care about that, but some people do.
As for the warranty, that's backed by the company's reputation and laws covering description of goods for sale. This is different from the EU statutory right to 2 years. They work in parallel, but are accessed by different means. If a company defaults on their officially offered warranty after the 2 year period, you can take them to court with a civil claim.

They're not using 778, but industrial spec version (although it may actually be physically the same). Qualcomm are providing the required support for the required time. This includes security patches. There is no industry spec version of 782 or 7 gen 2 available from Qualcomm. Qualcomm's choice.

$700 for a 778G is a stretch.. I doubt anyone who buys this is even able to repair it or will use it for the 10 years it's gonna be supported. I can get a $200 Galaxy A52s which is even better than this overpriced ugly ass phone

I really hope the USB port has On-The-Go support. This would make this phone be more versatile and possibly extend its lifetime even further.

Also thing that makes me curious is, how do they provide 5 years more of security patch, if it only receives 5 OS upgrades? One Android version usually only receives 3 years of security patch until it's EOL. Except if they do some "Android version skipping" like they did on Fairphone 3, I don't think it's really possible to provide another 5 years security patch in normal circumstances.

I'm kinda curious how this 782G chipset will perform in 2031. 870 or 7+ Gen 2 might be a better option if they really want to save their budget in this segment but whatever

It's a custom Qualcomm SoC with a performance comparable to the former. It's not a powerhouse in any way but it's meant to be a reliable home use phone.
