They buy every often because of low prices, and then the leftover phone is discarded or sold. Or just remains without any use. Either way, production is maximised because of demand from such buyers that prefer vanity of changing phones in a short period of time

I think the consensus opinion of a bunch of phone enthusiasts here, that are not really representative of society at large TBH, is that we are glad that it exists, but we probably wouldn't buy it.

And yes it's not environment friendly but let's face it what else tech is? 8 years is absolutely ridiculous, as is Samsungs gimmicky 4-5 years! Our the real Nokia boss (not that terribly bad HMD Global👎) has predicted we will not use these smartphones anymore in 2030 but something different, something futuristic will then have replaced them. I buy actually a new phone once a year and why so? It's feels so good to have a new smartphone with better cameras and looks etc. I can afford it too because I buy only phones costing between 199€ to 349€. My latest purchase was just recently Xiaomi 12 Lite brand new at 199€ (usually 399€) and it's brilliant much better than my Xiaomi 11 Lite NE except only one thing it was 25 grams heavier which wasn't well done Xiaomi! The most comfortable phone to use is still therefore 11 Lite which feels amazing in the hand and weights only 157 grams.

Fairphone gets way too much praise, their products are mediocre at best and expensive and they rely on guilt tripping consumers. Besides, the processor will age quickly and nobody will want to swap out parts after a few years for a slow phone.

I am tempted to buy this, but will wait for a while since my FP 3 from 2019 is still serving me so well. And it will continue to serve me well as a Ubuntu Touch project phone when I finally decide to upgrade.

Samsung used to have an active version of their S series phones but they discontinued it since the S8. Idk why they did that. I might've bought one, certainly world have, if I had to choose between this or an S active phone

I doubt this phone would work well after 5, or 6 years(or any other phone). Phones are not made to last that long these days this is the truth. What I mean is that after 5 or 6 years the phone will not work as you would like to work.

Anonymous, 10 Sep 2023I don't understand. All phones designed for longer use... moreBecause rugged phones or phones that are meant to endure for a long time in general, are attractive for low-income people like construction workers etc. who need an unbreakable phone. CPU and other hardware like cameras, display etc aren't important to them.
People who want to buy flagship phones can buy rugged cases to protect their device, so it wouldn't be necessary to make a rugged flagship.
In the case of Fairphone, it is a phone targeted at a small group of people who are willing to waste their money, no matter whether the phone is good or not. As ideology stands above quality here, Fairphone can ask any price for their outdated entry-level phone. Many people wozldn't buy it anyways.

This would've definitely been my next choice, but the lack of a headphone jack and the large size are not for me... But I'm super happy that Fairphone is pushing for more repairability and software support. Hopefully others start doing the same (even if it has to be mandated by future legislation!)

I don't understand. All phones designed for longer use, this or rugged phones, they all come with weak or mid-range CPU. I just don't get it. It's so dum to put a processor that is going to start ageing in just a couple of years put inside a phone that's meant to be kept for a far long time

Not only is it expensive for the specs, it is also not available in Asia... Would have considered buying one myself if it was at least available worldwide.

Performance is not affected cause the screen have green lines or burn ins. If you replace the screen then it work still in same performance as it wont lose it so whats so sick joke about it ? The problem is that phone is too expensive, it doesn't make sense to buy it when Samsung offer pretty good support, Google is also getting there. If you would to get Galaxy S23 you could happily carry that phone for 5 years without any worries and it's so much better than Fairphone in every way.

Our used markets are flooded with used phones that have "tainted screens". And the sellers are normalizing it by saying phone performance isn't affected by the burn-in. What a sick joke.
