Anonymous, 10 Sep 2023if the software performance is Smooth. atleast in par with ... moreMan thats just funny comment.
After 2-3 years of updates samsung is way slower than even lowest of the low chinese crap with zero updates.
I am sorry but with a lots of Bloatware and with a so called ONE UI and a typical 2.3, maybe 4GB ram in most A series phone barely handle anything else because said bloatware will eats most of ram and makes phone too unable run and work smoothly.

It's garbage!! It doesn't matter how long the software support is if the phone is already trash. It doesn't even have a headphone jack. And it's using a chip that's only as powerful as the snap 778g so it won't be usable in 5 years, nevermind 10. So much for being friendly to the environment and to consumers

Jeez . Why couldn't they just put a better chipset and get rid of those bezels . Why would I use a phone for 8 years with such a chipset .

If it was just that then we wouldn't have need for storgae space on phone
It's kinda stressfull to be clearing and moving things when a phone should have large storage space to hold large amount of stuff

sadh, 10 Sep 2023If they really want to make the phone *actually* usable for... moreThis. Although with the specifics of the heat issue for the 8G1 I'd prefer an 8+G1 or 8G2. But I'd absolutely pay S23 Ultra money for an 8G2-powered Fairphone with no other hardware changes.
Now I have to choose between an actual S23 of some kind (that I might get four years out of with good battery management?), or a Fairphone 5 that I... Might also get four years out of before it becomes utterly sluggish?
Given the carrier deals on the former I'll probably just do that and feel bad about it :(

What about apps in 5 years in the future ?
Never mind 8 to 10 years as this phone when it gets it's last updates.

Without any external circumstances that's beyond my control, like being robbed, my phones last at least 4 to 5 years with me.
Spend more money on a new device when my current one still works well is nonsense to me. I never had issues with my phones or shattered a display, except battery. After 3.5 years, battery life gets as awful as you can imagine.
Technology is evolving too fast nowadays and I think that 5 years of support is something it's nice to have if you are careful with your phones, but I would prefer easier and cheaper repairing for 5-10 years than system updates or OS support.
I would keep my recently bought second hand Galaxy Note10 forever if I could replace the battery and camera lenses, since eventually they will get worn out after years of use, just like real camera lenses.

you have to suffer, 10 Sep 2023it would last 8 years if it had 512gb storage option. The phone will have microSD slot so why do you need on the phone to be 512GB ???
My last phone had only 32GB and lasted me for 5 years without ever had any issues that it be full or something. I just hold my phone clean and move my pictures and so on to my PC or external hard drive.

„On the plus side, this year Fairphone switched to a 90Hz OLED display with higher resolution, 6.46” 1,224 x 2,700px, compared to a 60Hz IPS LCD, 6.3” 1,080 x 2,340px.“
OLED is a downgrade in terms of durability. Should have kept LCD and make it 120Hz LTPS.

8 years from now, technology wouldve advanced and this phone would seem outdated, so I wonder what's the point of 8 years of updates.
We don't want too few years of updates, but not too many, that raises unnecessary costs up.

msi, 10 Sep 2023price already high, 700 euro, why not just another 100 euro... more7+ Gen 2 be ok also to cut the cost down as 7 series should be cheaper then 8 series even tough the chip is close to 8+ gen 1
In the price this is going i would want a lot more things with it. Like 3.5mm jack and telephoto camera. Even tough i dont care about cameras but if i pay a lot for something then it should have a lot in it too. I would go with Poco X5 Pro and it would last me as long as this Fairphone 5 cause the hardware is pretty much same as the hardware for performance that is important for long life time so the phone wont be slow as heck after 5 years of use. With X5 Pro i would save over 400 euro too with it

AnonD-785631, 10 Sep 2023too big no audio jack too expensive don't give a cr... moreFairphone do sell spare parts of the phone, so you can still repair it by yourself. Won't comment on the size since it's mainly due to personal preference, but the price turns out to be great value in long term. Samsung only manages to give five year of software support for the S Ultra phones that cost almost double the price. €700 for up to 10 years of official support is completely unheard of.

you have to suffer, 10 Sep 2023it would last 8 years if it had 512gb storage option. It still has microSD card slot, so I can still live with 256GB internal storage. It's not any different than using a Sony Xperia 1 phone since the 2020 Mk2.
