Apple A17 Pro chipset appears on Geekbench, performance cores clocked at 3.78GHz

14 September 2023
The A17 Pro holds a 16% single-core score and a 13% multi-core lead over last year's A16 Bionic.

Hopefully there will be a tech site that will do a deep dive into the cores. At this point, this looks like to be simply another overclocked A15 with just another GPU core added, 8GB RAM, and USB3 controller.

                    So basically it's a 3-year-old chip
                    A15: 5nm
                    A16: 5nm+, overclocked A15, LPDDR5
A17 Pro: 3nm, more overclock, +1 GPU core, USB3 controller.

Will have to see what Apple brings for the M3. If not, seems like Apple is hitting a ceiling, or their silicon team have gone to greener pasteurs.

For example if I buy an AMD RX7600 it will give me better raw performance than an Nvidia RTX 4060Ti would, but the Nvidia chip has far better compatibility, optimisation for most application as well as a superior suite of features.
Works the same with the Snapdragon vs Dimensity discussion.

It's actually 10-15% over regular N5, but both N5P and N4 surely made that jump less impressive so let's say 5-10%. It's the power that's 30% down, again over N5.

Didn't Apple themselves pretty much say that there was only a 10% performance improvement for the CPU? Not sure why people are surprised about this lol.
I agree the performance increase should've been a bit higher, but still.

Anton., 14 Sep 2023so much power to upload photos and videos to tiktok and Ins... moreTrue. The problem with most of today's smartphones is not chip power.

So what happened to all those leaks and rumours which showed the A17 chipset scoring with over 3000 single, and 7900 multi. But here we only get 2900 single and 7200 multi.

Overall, the leaks were about +10% higher scoring. And that was inline with all the previous rumours and expectations. Either Apple is being anti-consumer and purposely underclocking these chipsets in order to make next year's chipsets look better. OR its that Apple really has hit their limits and aren't as innovative as they were 5-Years ago. Either way that is bad for iPhone users. But it means Android owners will be able to finally brag that their upcoming Snapdragon chipset is close, matches, or exceeds the metrics of Apple Silicon.

Me personally, I want to see progress. I want everyone to compete, and for consumers to have the best product possible for it's period. I don't want stagnation, or artificial limitation to products. If you want to run an Xbox 360 emulator on your phone, I think more power to you.

All those power but can't play emulator games such as ps2 or gamecube. What a waste.
