So they will copy paste the Apple way since this periscope has its limits on Z axel and thickness?
Go figure

Anonymous, 20 Sep 2023The perfect S24 ultra imo: 256gb minimum storage, 12-16gb ... moreNo on the curved display.

And I don't want them cheapening out the S24+. Leave that alone. People can buy the S24 if they want a phone for the same price as iPhone 15 ($799).

Anonymous, 20 Sep 2023Doesn't mean we have to accept such blatant downgrades... moreOf course we dont but tell that to Samsung they dont care and they have enough money to start a war against those protestants just like me or you.

I had S21U, I bought it only for the camera and it never disappointed. Now I have S23U which is again a good camera phone, 10x camera is amazing but if they are to ditch it in S24U, this will be disappointing, and it will drift away a lot of users.

                  The perfect S24 ultra imo:
                  256gb minimum storage, 12-16gb ram
Same price as 15 Pro max
                  Slightly curved display
                  No more chin
Titanium, lighter weight and slightly smaller due to smaller bezels
                  10x optical zoom
                  Satellite connectivity
                  SD 8g3 worldwide
Stacked battery with better battery life than 15 pro max

And the s24 and s24+ should be competitively priced to the iPhone 15.

It's a weird move. While there are some arguments to be made about the advantages of a 5x camera, the 10x has been one of the S Ultra series' distinguishing features. It might be hard to sell the fans of the 10x camera to the idea that a 5x is better (even if they go with the whole quad bayer is going to make it comparable to a bayer 10x pitch).

                        Hey Samsung!
Keep this periscope camera and make this more realistic for future purposes. Samsung is known for its zoom lens capability.
So keep this lens with higher magnification and this is the great tool against dm apple iphone 15 Pro Max's camera.

Anonymous, 20 Sep 2023Here's a list with the relative number of pixels per a... moreAs there is so much misinformation in the comments, I quote my list again.
People or camera reviewers don't understand that "10x optical" is not a physical specification. The most important physical specifications that determine how well a distant object can be captured are mainly:
                            1. the number of pixels you get from an object
                            2. the effective lens diameter
                            3. the color filter array.

                            1. The S23 Ultra's "10x camera" offers fewer pixels per object than a Pixel 7 Pro at 240mm (9.2 megapixels vs. 11.4 megapixels) or a Xiaomi 13 Ultra at 240mm (9.2 megapixels vs. 12 megapixels).
                            2. The S23 Ultra's "10x camera" has about the same effective lens diameter (roughly 5.5mm) as the Pixel 7 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max and a smaller effective lens diameter than the Xiaomi 13 Ultra (6.47mm)
                            3. The only real advantage: The S23 Ultra's periscope has a better color filter array than the Pixel 7 Pro or Xiaomi 13 Ultra. But due to the small effective lens diameter (5.43mm) of the Pixel 7 Pro, there is so much diffraction that the difference between Quad Bayer and Bayer gets neglectable (the sensor basically outresolves the lens, no matter whether Quad Bayer or Bayer) and as I wrote in my previous comments, the 7 Pro outperforms the S23 Ultra at 360mm (15x) indeed, when Google's short Night Sight mode is turned on.

Unless they add a 5x periscope lens with 108mp capabilities. There's no point of dropping the 10x lens. Because the 10x lens is what makes the s21U, S22U and S23U so unique.

Someone might not use this so frequently that is another story, but it is still useful. I would love Samsung to not drop the 10x, or if they drop it, put a 7x or an 8x instead, but a 3x and a 5x is stupid in my opinion.

Who needs 10x zoom and why? You need around 85mm for nice portraits, even 50mm is totaly fine.
