If my previous phone, a Nokia 8 Sirocco, didn't started malfunctioning I wouldn't have bought my current phone. I was planning to keep it at least for 7 years. If I can repair it, I will keep using it as my secondary device.

Which device did you switch from and to? As I seem to have no problem.

I still keep my Galaxy Note 3 because of its interchangeable batt and it is still supported by LineageOS. My kids are playing well on it.

The phone I have right now is good for min. 4-5 years. That's my plan if my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will get supported longer, then it could be longer for me as well.

Phones are investments already which costs more than 1000€/$ already. And for me there is no technical reason anymore to change faster than every 4-5 years.

using iphone SE 1 st version 32 GB. since last 7 years only problem I have to charge twice.
every one complement it calling "TOY PHONE"
wanted to buy 13 mini but it used to be expensive than 13 eventually not available in stock I chose to stick wtih this till it dies and cherish

justasmile, 29 Oct 2023No repair is more expensive than the price of a new phone. In many cases this is true - but if you have a quality workhorse like the LG V60, it can be worth it. I've put 300$ into repairs for my V60, I bought the phone for 175$. This is exasperbated by my tendency to take apart things and break them out of klutziness - but the only part that happened with was the camera, which was 80$. To me it's worth it because I'd rather repair what I have than buy something new. Also the financial shock of a new phone is a lot more than small repairs over time. I don't break screens (famous last words) so I don't consider that a part of repair cost since I'll never need to do that, though that would be close to the cost of a new unit.

Sd cards are so important to me that I'll not upgrade until 512gb storage becomes mainstream. I own two Note 20 ultras, s20 plus and s10.

I use all four phones daily, and i charge them at 5w to preserve battery life. S10 has the honor of bearing my sim card as i only bought the other three in 2021/22 once it became clear samsung is not going to bring back sd card slots.

That being said, i don't care for the environment so Fairphone doesn't have the capacity to make a phone that would spark my interest even they give a 30 year guarantee.

I am currently using the OnePlus Nord (the first one) I got it in December of 2020, so it is more or less 3 years old at this point. It is still going super strong, with its software/security support terminating this year. But I never felt the need to upgrade during my time using this phone, sure it had a bunch of bugs and problems but OnePlus was consistent in patching them even though they were late sometimes. Even now I dont feel tempted to upgrade at all, it is perfectly usable and amply powerful for my light/medium usage, the battery puts up for the kind of usage I have every the day. Only gripe would be that, it does heat up a little at times and then the battery drains a little too quick. But it charges blazingly fast.
I think this phone has given me value well over its worth. Kudos to OnePlus on this one. Plan to keep using this until it becomes literally unusable.
Another major reason to hold back from an upgrade for me is that, this size is barely perfect for me, with modern phones increasing in size I am not so sure about wanting to upgrade anytime soon.

If you don't install a new version of iOS for your iPhone since you bought it, it may be able to keep running fast for a longer time. But it's just running fast.

Apple tried and failed but they made the best mini phones (13 mini).

This shows that there is no major improvement in battery technology. To get more battery they simply make the phone big and the efficiency improvements are of no use because of lots of new added features.

You need multiple things for an 8 year lifespan:

                                    1) very fast processor, storage; large storage capacity
                                    2) network bands which are well thought out (future proofing)
                                    3) software patches (of course)
                                    4) hardware support at service centers

Current phone - 2 yrs old midrange
Old phone - 4 yrs old budget
I will keep my current phone till it becomes uncomfortably slow to use - could be next year, could be 2027.
