101dude, 08 Nov 2023I don't know why people complain about MIUI so much pe... moreOnly reason is that browser cant be uninstalled on china market devices...
Some other reason being ads and wanting to use custom roms.
This generally is never been an issue on xiaomi devices made for the EU and so on.
Global rom has ads that can be turned off in music, file explorer, install apk and "recommendation" for the app drawer (all which can be turned off and do not reappear).
This is the overblown hassle people talk about, which xiaomi.eu roms are usually better because they dont have this.
Chinese phones are loaded with bloatware because those apps are ironically very useful in china and not really true bloat...

How is stuff like this legal? It's your phone, but do they not want you to tinker with it, so they forcibly lock it down.

Lister, 08 Nov 2023Why are people unlocking bootloaders on their Xiaomi phones... moreI don't know why people complain about MIUI so much personally I have no problem with it because even if it comes with bloatware and optional recommendations these are things you can get rid of while setting up your phone if you can go through the hassle of unlocking the bootloader why not just take your time while setting up your new phone and customize the UI to your preference

Bodygard, 08 Nov 2023Yes it does prevent. If you have an older android version y... moreEven with up to date security update you still have a risk cause there is no absolute security when your in the internet. Turn off internet and you have it safer.
Most apps still work on android 8 or even older. Most people dont use there phones so long to lose app support. You buy a new phone when it's new and get like 2 OS updates so you be ok for next 7 years for sure. If you buy old phone then you have less time in support so it's better to get the new phone with latest OS update. I got my phone 5 months ago with Android 13 so i should get it at least to Android 15 and maybe even more as who knows what future holds as i had only Redmi note 5 AI before that had only 18 months of updates as 1 OS update and 18 months of security updates. With my Poco F5 i hope it is longer but still i dont think there be ever a need.
Also i am not a politician or work with documents that are sensitive or anything to fear any risks for being hacked or something. I also dont link my phone to sensitive information like bank accounts or digital wallets or anything that uses NFC as it is purely for my own security to lower the risks of fraud done to me.
Never trust your devices for your security. The more you look like gold nugget the more risk you have with security

Why are people unlocking bootloaders on their Xiaomi phones? Is it because of bloatware?

If you have an older android version you're at risk, security vulnerabilities etc not to mention some apps will stop working, stop getting support. So it prevents you to use your device in some important ways. Unless if you only use it for calls and sms plain and simple.

So it won’t be possible to install a localised ROM like Xiaomi.eu on Xiaomi 14 and later CN HyperOS devices, as I don’t think an English-speaking person would be able to get that level 5 on Chinese forums. To think I have considered buying Xiaomi 14 Pro… Welp, RIP.

As easy as closing it, update HyperOS and after doing so, open the bootloader again! It's not like everyone needs to do that these days, especially on new devices.
