Xiaomi phones with unlocked bootloader won't get HyperOS updates

08 November 2023
Xiaomi is also making the unlock process much more difficult.

101dude, 08 Nov 2023I don't know why people complain about MIUI so much pe... moretoo bad such option are absent in xiaomi sold in my country.
if you want to get rid of said bloat/adware you have no other choice than unlocking your bootloader and install custom rom in it.

What about Xiaomi phones with a loaded bootlocker?

Welp, there's another reason to reconsider buying a Xiaomi/Redmi phone

At this point I might reconsider getting the Honor 90 or the Smasnug A54

Certainly a bad move. But I will not be updating my phone to hyper OS 😂 I am a Xiaomi 12 pro user and it will likely be last update by Xiaomi for this phone. I don't want to install a buggy update and regret for updating my phone. Recently, Xiaomi have removed screen on time in battery stats 😑 so hell with Xiaomi updates I don't need them.

But I thought Xiaomi phones always have unlocked bootloader in the first place?

Well they're killing off the main point of getting a Xiaomi...

Dunno what the big fuss is about if I'm being honest. Seasoned rooter here. These days there isn't much excuse to STAY in an unlocked bootloader state/rooted what with perfectly safe rootless adb tools such as UAD available. Just run that, debloat your phone off all the unnecessaries and you're all set. No need to unlock your bl whatsoever AND software updates stays working.

Still to be fair, let's see how/what the next batch of that later vers of HyperOS users can report in about the implemented restrictions.

Awful move that might reflect on their sales of phones with Hyper OS.

"HyperOS devices will be harder to unlock". Harder does not mean impossible. Give enough time and expert tech people will find one or more ways to do.

Djole, 09 Nov 2023Oh boy, is this gonna backfire on them. I cant see how will this affect them in any way. It's not affecting any other brand that have locked bootloader. But they only made it a bit harder for you to unlock the bootloader

Lister, 08 Nov 2023Why are people unlocking bootloaders on their Xiaomi phones... moreXiaomi ship their phones (Poco) with a good number of extremely annoying and uninstallable bloatware. There's no easy way to turn those useless apps off, let alone uninstalling them. Xiaomi's STUPID, IMMATURE and IRRESPONSIBLE behavior, opens all our phones to potential malware attack, because those uninstallable bloatware are constantly accessible in the background via the Internet. You simply can't turn those spying Chinese bloatware off, which indirectly makes the Xiaomi phones vulnerable to virus attacks from all directions. Criminals can easily enter your phone via those bloatware, because there's no way to turn them off. It's like you go to work and leave the backdoor of your house wide open and hope/assume nothing bad will happen, good luck with it... I don't understand what's preventing the EU from banning this nasty, unethical and harmful practice.

Anonymous, 08 Nov 202310+ year Xiaomi buyer here. It was always a pain to unlock ... moreI second this, 10+ years user. Had MIUI in my galaxy s1 and Motorola defy, started buying them when my country started offering them. Unlock became harder and harder. This is BS. I hope at least it stays that way

Just buy old device than newer, realme and Xiaomi are slowly killing UBL services.

They act as it's their own phone and/or the user is a 3 years old child.
Anyway, people have to learn to act as matures and to demand to be treated as such. BY ANYONE!
