HarmonyOS Next is almost ready, will drop Android app support

13 November 2023
The OS is ready for rollout.

Unfortunately, consumers want a safe, reliable experience that will be future proof to an extent. App developers will not bother to invest their resources into a completely new code for just one manufacturer. In China, most foreign apps are banned either way, so with this move, Huawei is practically isolating themselves to only China.

Cah Nglayab, 14 Nov 2023Ah yes, take a look at the amount of hate speeches in this ... moreUnfortunately that's what Western "propaganda" did to prople.
They just don't like when Asia (especially China in this context) do something that might become a big thing.
And their excuse is basically always "China is spying, so it should be banned". As if western companies isn't spying lol.

Kinda irony for so called "tech enthusiasts" hating new technologies.

      no risk no reward

Shouldn’t be an issue for the Chinese market.

As for APK, People forgets that even Google is deprecating APK, requiring developers to use Android App Bundles. APK is mostly just for sideloading nowadays.

Nokia come on bring back meego from the ashes, N9 reborn perhaps

The last part was because they struck a deal with microsoft (I literally just said that didn't I?).
If only they never dealt with microsoft we would have real linux phone huh.

The problem with N900 was fragile hinge, broken USB port and busted sensors, the OS itself was critically acclaimed.
It's also that the phone was part of 'Developer phone' not really consumer, so the marketing is pretty bad on this.

Like really, what's really wrong at trying something new?

Will this Huawei acts influence your life? (If yes then explain why and how.)

Is there's any proof HarmonyOS Next will die like that?

Is that kind of debate even necessary?

Are you gonna brought up "National Security"?

I'm just gonna see how this comment section will become. And no, I ain't a China Fanboy whatsoever.

The only reason why Nokia ditched Maemo was because they had entered a deal with microsoft to ship their phones with windows phone.

It has come to my attention that N900 did have cmd, this means to install thing you don't need to navigate cumbersome GUI and ads, you can just enter:
                        $ sudo apt install firefox

That's much better than the horrible bloat of play store and app store.

Neither did "android" and this one is even more confusing, did you mean google? OEMs like samsung, nokia, and motorola? what?
