Anonymous, 03 Dec 2023There are probably about 3-7 billion gamers in the world, c... moreLook at the actual sales of flagship gaming mobile phones and manufacturers, from Asus, lenovo, xiaomi and zte, probably a few more, they sell their flagship phones but they are not top sellers as it's a super niche market, if it was, why don't you think other manufacturers don't sell gaming orientated flagship phones such as Samsung, yes, mobile gaming is a big market but vast majority is just casual usually not gaming users who still play candy crush on a 3 years old mid range Android.
On the other hand, cutting edge visuals demonstrated on iPhone 15 pro/pro max (I am not iPhone user) such as ray tracing on resident evil village (limited at 720p 30fps) shows that 8gb ram isn't enough and it has more ram, it will probably at 60fps, that's way of the future, but so far no Android phone (Samsung promised 2 years ago but no evidence), then more than 12 ram would justifiable

You're not getting 8gb free ram out of the box from a phone marketed with 8gb ram. Might not even have half available for free especially if it's a samsung lol.

Anonymous, 03 Dec 2023It should be 8GB, but it's not because developers don&... moreExactly this, agree completely with you. Since basically every OEM wants bragging rights and smartphone business was always a spec race, they just keep throwing more RAM in every generation, which in turn allows developers to be lazy with app and code optimization, so we have resource and battery hogs such as Instagram, that app is horribly optimized on Android, just to name one. I'm sure right now it's among the worst optimized apps on Play Store. But on iOS for example it's just that much better because of stricter optimization.

Still all games run well on 1080p 60fps or more as it depends on a game. Some get less but not under 30

Anonymous, 03 Dec 2023What you need 12GB RAM for if your not a gamer ? 8GB is m... moreThere are probably about 3-7 billion gamers in the world, counting all platforms. Most people on mobile use their phones ofr games at some point. So, 12GB is definitely valid on a FLAGSHIP device. If you don't need the best performance, you hopefully have the common sense of spending less on your phone.

Anonymous, 03 Dec 2023The wording is kinda confusing. If you are asking me, how m... moreYes 4-6GB be enough when the RAM have high clock speed.
In the end with low clock speed RAM you can have larger number or GB dont really matter.
It's like the cameras megapixel that dont matter when the censor is trash

imparanoic, 03 Dec 202312gb should be more than sufficient for 99% of mobile phone... moreWhat you need 12GB RAM for if your not a gamer ?
8GB is more then enough for next 10 years if you dont play games.
Only issue for the 10 years can be that the phone stop getting updates for last 5 to 10 years and then maybe lots of apps the OS be too old.
Never mind that it all depends on the ram your phone have. You can have 12GB RAM but when it just a slow RAM then it's pointless and wont beat even 8GB ram phones with higher clock speed

It's just that the game developers get lazy on optimization and they dont really need to if there is hardware for it to compensate
If you dont play games then 8GB be enough for next 10 years for sure

iOS need more than 8gb of ram to run heavy games or third party apps, anybody who thinks iOS doesn't 12gb ram isn't a heavy user or multi-tasker. Sure iOS is optimized by so many developers so some apps might appear very light towards iOS and may feel very demanding for some Android devices, but without those optimizations You would need more ram on iOS. But Android on the other hand is a very demanding Os, google keeps bringing useless features and increasing the GB size of it's operating system coupled with different smartphones UI, iOS takes just 19gb out of 256gb variants for iOS 16, but Google takes 31gb from 128gb Android just for Android 13 And that's for Rom. Ram on the hand is a very different case I don't know how many iOS eats from 6gb or 8gb but am sure it's just 2gb cause must Google apps are not pre installed, but Android takes over 3gb from a 4gb ram phone (a very low end Tecno, camon 15 from my experience) that's with it's own Ui skin And am sure it takes over 5gb from 12gb ram Samsung's flagship or less
Android os - 700mb
System ui - 300mb
Hios launcher - 375mb
And some other petty bloated apps from Tecno skin often fills up space and it can only hold not more than 3 heavy apps in background. So am saying at least 12gb is okay but Google android should tone down their intensive apps it shouldn't eat that much RAM, tho I don't know how stock android on 4gb works this is just my experience with my old low end device.

It should be 8GB, but it's not because developers don't optimize their code or can't optimize it well enough. PCs can just get by well enough with 16GB and there is no real need for phones to get anywhere close to that. The more RAM manufacturers add, the worse developers are going to write because they have no incentive to optimize.
