jiyen235, 06 Feb 2024If the Xiaomi 14 is priced competitively, close to the base... moreGood point about releasing phones late. The Xiaomi 14 and 14 pro were launched in China at the end of October so they should be very well optimized by the global launch. They've already had around 4 months to optimise and get the best out of the cameras for example so when it's launched globally you know what you're getting

pl2rts, 06 Feb 2024What are you talking about ? Totally off topic from my comment !No?
" At Chinese release date they compete with Apple release but with global release of the 14 they compete with Samsung. And probably a lot of people pick the Samsung over them cause they cant wait for Xiaomi global release"
You basically claim even if ppl have interest in xiaomi, they still get samsung instead because they cannot wait.
Dumb ppl do it. If you want phone A, just wait until A is available. Do not buy B.
Simple. Is it hard to do this?

Mr. Anonymous, 06 Feb 2024Nice phone, but don't really want to switch from Samsu... moreThere is no such thing as Samsung ecosystem. I have S21 and a galaxy watch 6, and its compatibility is pathetic.
Also, I feel that Samsung is very anti-consumer when it comes to privacy. Just 1 thing that is a complete sell-out. On a Samsung you can't block an app from accessing the internet, while on Xiaomi you can. It's not only an anti-privacy feature, but also makes your phone so much more insecure.
It's just sad that Xiaomi is bad at updates. Other than that Samsung is really for the uninformed masses.

I've been following the trend of these phones for a while now. Originally I was intending to get a 13 Pro from the xiaomi website. Then when the 14 series with the Sony lytia sensors was announced I decided to wait.
When youtubers start to review these it will be the usual s24 ultra vs. IPhone 15 vs. Sony? I mean why don't they ever compare Sony phones in their findings. A couple of reasons being with the exception of Samsung they manufacture the main sensors on these phones and the monetization works better with other brands.
Allegedly Samsung are working on a near 1 inch sensor with high megapixel count. In either scenario a 432 megapixel sensor binning down to a more sensible size is just pure marketing. Although 432/16 would be 27 megapixels binned before any necessary lens correction and vignette cropping.
I reckon if you are on your travels and don't need a big camera or want to be paying extra for luggage insurance etc. Something like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra would be ideal
As for china......
As a samsung user, I don't really rate them as the best much now. LG V phones were great but that is life.
Now here is a possibility. Let's say Apple add a Lytia sensor to the next version and combine their technology to that. Or Zeiss team up with Samsung and start using the Lyt900 then phones will basically end up needing extra cooling solutions adding to the complexity of their production.
Compact Aps-c, m43 and full frame will basically always be superior due to physics. One work around could be to add back covers with sensor mounts where you could use a suitable lens.
Overall you also need to reserve the battery power for other tasks too like Internet, social media and heaven forbid...make phone calls....
Although personally I would still be happier mostly with a Sony A7CR with a couple of lenses to use in an ideal world.

Xiaomi makes a big mistake when it releases a new phone model, it doesn't release it worldwide at the same time and make it available everywhere, for all markets. I would immediately buy the Xiaomi 14 Pro, but there is no European version, and according to rumors, there won't be one in the European market either. Xiaomi makes great devices, but their sales strategy is really bad.

pl2rts, 06 Feb 2024Problem is that Xiaomi release there phones in China first ... moreXiaomi using their home market to mass-test all final quirks that beta testing didn't discover isn't a bad thing. Also their HW is in no ways outdated by the time of international launch, just because it launched earlier in China.

Why xiaomi changed sensors from sony's IMX to samsung ISOCELL? Phones with ISOCELL got much worse colors, especially skin tones and greens looks awful.

pl2rts, 06 Feb 2024Problem is that Xiaomi release there phones in China first ... morewhy people wants the last flagship? the snapdragon sd 8 gen 1 still super porfull today, the gen 3 is going to old up another 3 years at least... the porblem is with all this waste produced and people wanting to get the last modle is bullshit, apple and other brands started this shitty trend, a phone now adays is able to old up 4 years, but with the software "updates" that makes them go slow and stop working properly, i have a samsung from 2018 still working well ahahaahaha, but not with samsung software, otherway it would be lagging and stopping.

Qimchi, 06 Feb 2024The best compact phone that's cheaper than a base S24 ... moreFirst of the 14 when come in the end of this month wont be cheaper then S24 if we look the prices with 13 and S23
Secondly 14 is not really a compact phone with 6.36inch screen.
S24 147 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm
Xiaomi 14 152.8 x 71.5 x 8.0 mm or 8.1 mm
