Weekly poll: aluminum, stainless steel or titanium?

11 February 2024
When you are looking for a new phone, what is your preference for the phone's body?

Sort by:

Plastic fantastic baby!

It's light. Won't break/shatter easily. Can be made into various textures and patterns and shapes and is cheaper.

On the back of the phone also, it makes even more sense! Won't shatter or break. Is cheaper too. Yeah, for the mid-plate/chassis inside, keep that metal for rigidity.

    Carbon Fiber would be better

well it doesn't matter for me as most will have a phone case anyways. I am more concerned about structural integrity. It doesn't matter which material is used, as long as it's durable.

        I need gold that's it.

Of course, aluminium. Quite a good balance of density, thermal conductivity, and strength (depending on which type)

My Sony A7 cameras are marketed as magnesium alloy and are quite sturdy. Does this count as stainless steel?

I just need phones which can be used for 3 to 5 year without any major problem, that's it.
Most people just get involved in specsheet war.
But they fail to recall that human life is mostly limited within 100 year or so, like most people barely survive till age 100, lol.
If i survive 100 year then with my 5 year per phone usage, i need maximum 15 to 20 devices which can cost between $100 to $1000 in today's market price for each device thus total phone buying cost for my entire life would be within $2000 to $20000 range excluding network operator cost.

Life is limited and there are many things to do than just speaking about high or low spec stuffs.

                        Don’t care.

This is usually just something for the little spec sheet warriors to argue about.

Aluminum is more heat conducting, and it can help especially high end phones to dissipate heat.

                            Carbon - ceramic.

I really don't care at all bc I always have a flip case to protect my phone.

Anonymous, 11 Feb 2024Go see the weight of s20 x s21. But those are little phones (by today’s standards).

Between two identical-looking phones, with identical prices, performance, signal quality, weight and so on, I still prefer the PLASTIC one over the metal one.

This takes me back to the S5. I remember seeing how cheap it looked with its shiny plastic. Then the S6 came out and it looked and felt so premium that I fell in love with it. I can't say for certain that I've handled titanium, but aluminum is good enough for me.

"[Apple] switching to titanium and Samsung followed that move too"
Sure, because getting providers and an entire manufacturing line ready + millions of devices produced and ready for orders takes like 3 months.. Sure, Samsung copied Apple and didn't plan it in advance in a similar timeframe..

Imagine falling for the titanium meme. These people have really run out of things to innovate from these stagnant devices.
