Sony Xperia 1 VI might give up on the 4K display and tall aspect ratio

15 March 2024
The overall design will still be clearly identifiable.

Wow, such a coincidence. A couple of days I asked for this - commented on the RAM leak. No one talked about it. Now everybody seems to want this. Interesting. But thank you Sony. If I'm not mistaken, the 19.5:9 aspect ratio should be the same on my Samsung S22. Hopefully they will do the same for the Xperia 5 and 10.

The 21:9 aspect ratio was always a silly idea.
Yeah, SOME films are filmed in 21:9 but how many people actually see films constantly on their phones to justify that super tall usability hindrance? (specially when Sony ditched their good one-handed mode in favour of Google's garbage one).

That being said, I would rather they go back to 16:9 which is the standard for the vast majority of videos people watch on their phones.

At any rate, if Sony wants me back as a customer, they need to bring back the PROPER Compact line. And no. The Xperia 5 doesn't qualify at all.

Finally I might buy an Xperia 1. Couldn't stand that 21:9 screen. And that 4k screen was such a gimmick anyway

THANK YOU! Please make it wider!

Isn't this to be expected since Sony changes their design and even the naming scheme after every few generations?

This probably means a switch to Samsung panels

Those 4K panels were made by JDI if I remember correctly. And that means, hello green line issues like the ones saw on 5 II, 5III & 5 IV

Truthfully, all I care about the phones right now is hi res raw and electronic ND.
Given their camera tech resources, I expected at least competition in this field with Sammy.
Foldable would be nice, but I'm def not downgrading from cameras I got now.

not enough 4k content anyways, plus reuqires more internet data and also hard to tell difference at such a small screen size really from a great qhd with high ppi count

Anonymous, 15 Mar 2024Moviegoers go to cinemas or watch movies on TVs.So your point is that smartphones aren't multimedia devices and the whole wider gamut of P3 colorspace enhancements with various HDR supports are the greatest Gimmicks of today's time. How about content creators who shoot in a 21:9 ratio? How about better multitasking with a wider ratio? How about a wider field of view while gaming?... What if Apple did 21:9 phones? (As it did with 19.5:9)... Well, I see a lot of hypocrisy over this dude.

4K display is barely usable for normal smart phone use in 2024 anyway. Anything less than 8K is not sufficient.

I never used a 21:9 aspect ratio phone before, and I don't think it would be an a ppeal to me, but this strikes me as odd. 19.5:9 seems to be gaining popularity over 20:9 now, Samsung has now converted their entire lineup to that aspect ratio. It shouldn't be a big deal, but I don't get why we're supposed to be get used to a new aspect ratio for the third time now.
