Sony Xperia 1 VI might give up on the 4K display and tall aspect ratio

15 March 2024
The overall design will still be clearly identifiable.

NeonHD, 16 Mar 2024Yeah I agree. 21:9 is great for watching cinema-format movies.Yep. And it's just more comfortable in the hand. I don't trust for a second that they'll get rid of it

i woulnt be suprise if 4k and aspect ratio isn;t the only thing removed buy earphone jack and sd slot as well..

QHD screen is good enough. Announce this thing already!

I bought a Sony 5 II - size, camera, SD slot, 3.5mm jack convinced me. But it was in 2020.
The phone cost €600. I was considering Samgung Galaxy and iPhone. After the release date I switched from Sony 5 II to Pixel 8. Overall, I am satisfied, but the functions of Pixel Pro are missing, the battery disappears quickly, charging quaite is slow, and it overheats to fast. I paid 550€ so its not bad.
I'm going either to switch to Galaxy S24, Asus kill the Zenfone (dunno why),I can stay with Sony or look at a larger phone like Pixel 8 Pro, iPhone.
However, Sony has too few changes - I don't see any progress, Sony 1 or 5 - but they are half a class lower than Honor Magic 6, iPhone Max Pro, Galaxy Ultra. I appreciate the SD slot and 3.5mm jack, but it's not enough, not for 1200/900€. I would buy Sony 5 VI or 1VI but unfortunately the progress is very small and the price is the same as Samsung, Vivo, Honor, iPhone. Sorry to say that but for me Sony 5 is close to Xiaomi "T, T Pro" series not top phones.

Now 4 people will buy sony phones instead of the usual 3 people.

The fact is that the market share of Sony phones is low in Japan. I hope that you understand that if you have 5 Japanese friends and 2 of them use Sony phones, it doesn't mean that the market share of Sony phones in Japan is 40%.

I intend to buy the Xperia 1.6 when it comes out, upgrading from a 1.3. I am ok with both rumoured changes and see both as a positive. Right from the start 4K was/is mostly redundant on a mobile phone screen. I am hoping for the new model to be closer to the "max" models from the competition, so squashing down the 21:9 aspect ratio works for me too

Mobilemaster, 16 Mar 2024Yeah, I remember Vaio. Vaio was sold to a Japanese company,... moreThey're no longer made in Japan, or even made in China. They move their factory to Thailand in 2019 (from Beijing, China). I remember this clearly because I've seen complaints about build quality issues of Xperia 1(2019) on Chinese social media platforms. Maybe it required Sony a good amount of time to train new workers.

All Sony smartphones, including top models, are no longer made in Japan. I think their Japan-exclusive models, like the Ace product line, is also made in SEA.

4K is overkill as always but 21:9? Why give up on that? A tall phone means easy access to the stuff on the other side of the screen, something damn near impossible with one hand on the S22 Ultra onwards and iPhone 13 Pro Max onwards. Hope they go for 20:9 at least to lessen the blow. If it's anything wider then it'd be a tad unwieldly.

I hope Sony won't abandon 21:9 resolution. Currently own Xperia 5 and like to watch TV shows and movies while traveling.

I hope you are well about that manufacturing thing. I also heard this a few years before, but I don't know if that is till the same, for example are the top of the line Sony phones still made in Japan?

Looks good! I hope they keep that think top bottom bezels in favor of full screen display, no pony, punch hole or island bs. Asus also finally left the full screen design and joined punch hole wagon with their ROG phone last year.

But having function that could cater your niche demands does not effectively mean it is a niche brand. At least sony still want to make it mainstream.

-Unprocessed RAW output with competent manual mode (I'm a photographer by hobby and very picky about processing since I've seen the lattitude unprocessed photos have)
-Fast processor that won't feel slow for years (I only upgrade my phone every 5 years)
-MicroSD card slot (I store every picture I've taken on my phone to reference at any moment, sorta like oddly specific memories. I also store 380GB of music on my phone as it's my primary listening device. For both of these uses external storage would be impractical)
-Headphone jack (I refuse to use wireless headphones for their unreliable and expensive nature, and most bluetooth headphones aren't lossless)

Do you think you could reccomend me a phone for my unique needs? I don't care about android updates as long as it works. I prefer as large a screen as possible.

But yes they're in trouble. I read from news that foxconn demand Sharp to provide a plan to improve performance within 3 months.
