Sony Xperia 1 VI might give up on the 4K display and tall aspect ratio

The overall design will still be clearly identifiable.

Well their approach is to outsource entry models to clevo and tongfang, but flagships are still under made in Japan brand.

Their term is something like "our flagships are assembled and final-checked in Japan" but, still, not assembled from scratch. They are assembled from modules.

Kind of a shame as the Xperias were really unique in their tall designs, there is not a lot of differentiation outside of the camera these days among smartphones.

That being said, still not ideal that Sony have such small distribution and marketing of these great devices.

Between Xperia 6, Xperia 6+, and Xperia 6 Ultra and Xperia 10 6, Xperia 5 6, and Xperia 1 6, which ones are easier to understand? I hope that you have a skill to be honest.

Anonymous, 15 Mar 2024Ltpo has nothing to do with resolution. Sony simply does ... moreLmao. You act like sony is a charity giving out free phones, tryna save as much as they can.

Anonymous, 15 Mar 2024From the back cover, the phone looks like a cheap copy of Z Fold.Yeah. Uhm. We'll go with that. This phone takes 100x better pictures than the tiny sensors in your fold dude. Cheap my ass. The only thing cheap about it is the microSD card you can optionally put in it, because nobody has come out with a faster more reliable standard for phones yet. God I wish people thought before they posted. I mean it's the same people that call us shills saying anything with a camera bar that looks vaguely similar to any samsung phone is a copycat.

Or maybe, witnessing the downfall of Sony mobile, but still attributing it to "hey Sony's catering niche market! Not for you general public!"

is the purist copium I've even seen.

All of their phones will be made in China from now. If I where the boss of FCNT I would have opted for a 20% to be made in Japan, and the rest to be made in China so they could be still proud of that they are one of the last brands who makes their phones in their home country :)

Anonymous, 15 Mar 2024Conclusion: Sony = Samsung wannabe🤣 No wonder even th... moreSaid it before I'll say it again. Whether people of the same geolocation want phones made there is irrelevant. People buy phones based on their needs, not what company happens to have head office in their country.

If Sony was a Samsung wannabe they'd have:
                -Rounded display corners
                -Annoying and inflammatory marketing
                -200MP sensors
-Way too many software features so they can advertise better to normies
-A camera app that focused on cranking out ugly oversaturated over contrast photos that look like an acid trip after seeing pictures from a colour accurate and unprocessed camera
-No headphone jack or microSD since it's more profitable to sell earbuds and memory cards(sony sells earbuds already)

Yeah looks like we got a wacky take folks. Probably projection. Idk I'm not the best at these things. I just know this a mentally insane take.

MrSTTEK, 16 Mar 2024It is indeed a Japanese problem. Sharp sold to foxconn and ... moreIt needs mentioning about Sharp that NOT the whole company was sold to Foxconn. Initially it was a 66% controlling stake, which is now below 60%( 57% if I remember right). I know that if a company owns more then 50% is the controlling one, but that doesn't mean the Japanese can not do anything, so my point is that Sharp is a Japanese-Chinese company now, and they are not doing well these days( just see their stock price, it is going down every single day).
By the way I really hope if they will actually make a flagship, it will NOT have a single camera( such as the R6, R7 and R8 Pro), because that really sucks, of course people would rather buy an Apple or a Google phone which have a more complex camera system lol.

One is a video standard describing 3840*2160. The other is a more general standard describing 3840 pixels wide. It's why you see 4K widescreen monitors more often. They can extend a 1440p panel out to some ridiculous aspect ratio and call it 4K. This is nothing new and is simply an understanding problem, like so many qualities about sony phones. People call the name stupid when they're named quite logically and similar to many camera lines including ones sony makes, yet because it's different for the mobile space, people say it's dumb and makes no sense. I mean okay. I hate to say it but uh it's safe to say this is a skill issue.

To all the people who feel the need to point out for the millionth time that sony has low market share, remember that everyone's tech needs are different. A smaller percentage of people with tech needs that sony satisfies doesn't mean the phones are bad, it means not as many people need those features. What a ridiculous argument mate.

Their needs must always align with the company based out of their home country. That's not how it works xD. Cope and seethe that sony doesn't make phones for you. Doesn't change that for the people they ARE made for, they're awesome :)

Sharp did great after being sold to foxconn. They adopted a more general design after 2015, but proved to be successful.

The biggest threat to domestic brands is Google Pixel now. Pixel could offer better performance, better update policy, better camera, compared with similarly priced domestic phones.

Japanese smartphone market is like Galapagos islands, last time the invasive species was iPhone, and now is Pixel.

Anonymous, 15 Mar 2024Not Japanese, just Sony.It is indeed a Japanese problem. Sharp sold to foxconn and now is the largest Android brand in domestic market, while FCNT went bankruptcy and was acquired by Lenovo, Sony now in others category...

And I am curious what will happen with FCNT( Lenovo owns them, but it is not like all the Japanese where kicked out). Fujitsu( FCNT) was the last phone maker who actually made their phones in Japan. They where proudly made them there, now that is also gone.

Tons of fanbois have been worshipping a phone brand that Japanese themselves won't buy for years on this site...

Now they are in others category in their domestic market and even behind the restructured FCNT (now Lenovo)...
