Darth Caesium, 27 May 2024You forgot about Intel Foundries. Nvidia actually seems to ... moreAMD, nVidia & Apple will not use intel foundries.
And can't use intel foundries.
You can search on internet on how intel foundries a bit different that make them stuck at 10nm.
And also.... intel still on 10nm, if AMD, nVidia & Apple use 10nm, their Antutu CPU quality will fall behind Huawei.

I have my fingers crossed for chinese chip manufacturing to succeed but I have to say that these stimulus packages are mistakes - in any country.

A lot of that money will be wasted as is usual with governments. Leave that money to circulate in the private sector among the productive instead.

It is true that expensive countries like the US are much less likely to keep any industry created with stimulus. But it's still a bad idea economically. Leave the government out of economic activity as much as possible. It warps people's incentives.

Nvidia actually seems to be potentially keen on using some of Intel's upcoming nodes, and AMD seems to be interested in Samsung Foundries, which is at least somewhat promising. We don't know whether either will be competitive again, and it's impossible to predict for sure, but both Samsung and Intel seem to be becoming more competitive. Plus, Intel has lots of fabs around the world, so their production capacity is huge.

If we're talking about advance CPU manufacturing, there's only TSMC, Samsung & SMIC can make it. Moving from 1 factory to other require time for adjustment, and also there's a capacity issue.

In short, if TSMC were closed down due to sabotage by usa, then Apple, Qualcom, nVidia & AMD will collapse. Therefore, I doubt USA will do remote shutdown / sabotage.

China will also not steal TSMC, China will let TSMC do what they do now, business as usual, because this is not a fight of China vs TSMC, but a fight on China vs. renegade province.

China consider that Taiwan as part of their territory, and Taiwan also consider that mainland china is part of their territory. Basically, One China. After ww2, government from mainland china was expelled, and they settled on Taiwan, where they keept control. On mainland China come communist party which expelled them. Taiwan doesn't want to be independent, they want full control. Same as for mainland china. Its political question, not territorial. And USA should stay away and not interfere in politics of other countries. Now is end of discussion.

[deleted post]Taiwan is just the name of the island, but the official name is Republic of China (ROC).
So It's really a Chinese territory with Chinese living there, the only difference is the type of government.

You can argue, that you meant the communist PRC, but they never acknowledged ROC as a different state, the same is true for the rest of the world, so It would be closer to civil war than invasion.

It's too early to tell who will be the replacement here.
