Midranges prior to 2021 were amazing, full of features and you really didn't miss anything major compared to flagships, which just improved things. Nowadays it is a mixed bag, and makes a lot more sense to just get a 2022-2023 flagship rather than a "modern" midrange.

    People here get more offended when qualcomm rebrands SoC based on A78/A55 than when mediatek rebrands A76/55.

      Anonymous, 15 Jun 2024First people were crying about too many phones creating e-w... morethese things shouldn't exist anymore, full stop. low power SoCs should use modern architectures like the Dimensity 7200 (which is well over an year old already) does, and it's no wonder that all phones that have it share a superb battery life (aside xiaomi with their bottom tier optimization).

      these socs are slow and unefficient and this horrible practice of using super old architectures started only with the shortage.

How do you justify that processors from years ago dedicated to the same target had better and stronger features. Talking about the legendary snapdragon 625, or the 720g the 732g, the 690... All of those had 4K video among other stuff, that is the main criticism with this processor. It is inexcusable.

              First people were crying about too many phones creating e-waste, now that Qualcomm is recycling to produce less e-waste you people still cry about it? So the joke I'm not getting here is that you must cry regardless of whatever they do? It seems pointless. This chip is fine for entry to low mid-range phones, why are you complaining that the weak chipsets for weak phones are... weak? Just buy a better spec phone then, this is clearly not marketed towards you, the reason is to complain for the sake of complaining.

                Anonymous, 15 Jun 20247sg2 and 778 do not share gpu and modem. The Adreno 710 and 642L, while they aren't the same, perform similarly.

                and the modem on the 7s Gen 2 is somehow worse than the one on 778G, with 800mbps trimmed off of the X62 modem.

                      oh wow! just like how the 7s Gen 2 is a 4nm 778G, the 6s Gen 3 is a 695 but overclocked!! can you believe this?!?!

                      a part of me just wonders if the S suffix is gonna be useful in the 6 (or even 7) series CPUs, cause this is a 4 series CPU disguised as a 6 series CPU, they do this kind of stuff just to trick customers into thinking they'll buy something that performs good.

                      that doesn't really mean it's bad, it's just that it's inferior, way too inferior to be in this tier.
                      this 6s Gen 3 should've been a Snapdragon 4+ Gen 3.

Xiaomi and Realme are fine. The Poco X6 Pro is $280... Like I said, the V30 is more expensive than the S23 FE where I live. A quick search and you'll see the phone is too expensive in many American and European markets.

                          Moto Edge 50 Pro just released but it is currently too expensive as well compared to its competitors in the market.

                          It basically confirms my point that 7 Gen 3 phones with competitive pricings aren't mainstream yet in the west like phones with 778G were, specially if people have to rely on asian imports to get them for cheap. Hope it improves but my expectations are low.

                            It's impressive how Qualcomm managed to gradually lose its hegemony, apart from the top of the line Qualcomm is still the best in Android, in the intermediaries MediaTek and Samsung have already managed to surpass it.

What I told is based on the price available here and no I dont live in china of course so its not china prices, the iQoo Z9X for 180$, the iQoo Z9 for 245$ and the Vivo V30 with 310$ while the Vivo V30e is about the same price as the iQoo Z9, there is no way a Galaxy S23 FE is as same or even cheaper than the V30 since the Galaxy A55 occupied the 400$ price range
                                    If you found the phones sold for much higher price in your country then that means your government scamming you, I know an acquaintance who lived in Netherlands and she told me that chinese stuffs are sold for like 10x the price so she always shipped it directly from china

                                      Well If 6s Gen 3 had 4K Video Recording + TSMC 4nm + Adreno 650 GPU with current features, I would have said that it's worth it but sadly Qualcomm following Mediatek strategy for budget. Where are the days when 730G, 712, 845, 855 used to rock Qualcomm.

                                        You refer to the 4 Gen 2 alone to try to prove your point, and fine since it appears to be the only one with similar core config and clocks...

                                        - The curve vs D920 is quite close but you forget the D920 has clocks of 2.5 vs 2.2 GHz.
                                        - 695 has better efficiency at the same clocks, like 20 or 30% more...
                                        - 4G1 also sips considerably less power, clocked 200 mhz lower.

                                        Your claims of Samsung 4nm being better or at the same level of TSMC 6nm are just not true. At least not the 4nm process of the 4 Gen 2. And I'm watching the same tables you do on Socpk.
