When the 6 gen 2 will come out?

The last good, mainstream midrange chipset they delivered was the 778G. And its been years since. They have released other good stuff but they're either expensive or limited to a handful of devices.
Long gone are the days of SD 625, 720G, 778G that were everywhere and didn't skimp on features, power and availability for the segment.

"That is all fine and dandy"

This is NOT fine and dandy. You could've just let 7s Gen 2 or 778G be the 6s Gen 3. SD695 will never be as powerful as 778G.

It's not hard to see the difference between the two in terms of efficiency when you look at the battery endurance rating between last year's Sony Xperia 10 Mk5 and this year's Sony Xperia 10 Mk6.

There's no point using the 7s Gen 2 for the next-gen Xperia 10 since it's still a 6 Gen 1 with bigger RAM support.

A710 is expensive and downgrade from A78, A715 is barely faster and expensive, so is A720, reports are saying V9 cores are twice expensive compare to V8. That's why it's rare to see V9 cores under $300 price point.

Unless Arm do something with A725 otherwise A78 is going to be used for long long time.

Anonymous, 15 Jun 2024To be honest no need for this CPU at the first place. no one "needed" this, Qualcomm just wanted to make a misleading chip. People would think the 6s Gen 3 is a new and awesome chip and buy newer phones because of that. So yeah.

                                Please Sony....

Snapdragon series 6 is not a midrange like it used to be. It's basicaly a series 4+

Please reconsider using the Snapdragon series 7, because series 6 is 2% better then series 4 and series 4 is consodered as a low-end so difference between low and mid is too BIG.

                                Look around Sony !

People are now more aware about phone performance and when they see series 6 that's not as good as in 2015. when there was no series 7 and when difference between low-end series 2 and 4 in comparation with series 6 mid-end chip was much bigger.

Snapdragon series 4 and 6 are basicaly the SAME now performance wise.

This "new" chip should be called 4 gen 3 or even more tranparently a 699G or 695G+

I mean tbh I literally have no problems with it
695 is quite a capable chip for midrange devices
                                  It just can't do 4k

I thought as much! It's disgusting that Qualcomm are reselling the same chip from 3 years ago with essentially a slightly higher clock speed, in 2024.

I recently wrote a blog on my personal website complaining how the budget Android OEM's are abusing customers by reselling essentially the same phone as 3 years ago, but now with an AMOLED screen and a useless macro camera.

There has been ZERO innovation and new features in the budget market. Where's the wireless charging that should have made its way to this market by now? Where are the iPhone 8 level cameras that should have made their way to this market by now? Where is the IP 68 that should be a staple in this market now?

Tech gets cheaper every 2 years. In 2017 the LG V30 already had AMOLED, quad dac, ip68, wireless charging, premium cameras, metal frame, ois... That was 7 years ago. Our budget phones should be at that level at least by now.

But they are not. They have crap cameras, no wireless charging, no ois, no IP68, no metal frame, no quad dac, rubbish CPU etc.

I'm taking about €250 phones by the way. 7 years of tech should have made it's way into these phones by now.

But instead they just screw us over, selling the same junk with a new name, colour and design.

This is why I'm switching to iPhone. I'll buy a used older iPhone like the 12 and it will CRUSH any 2024 Android from €0 to €600....

Stuff these greedy OEM's and stuff Qualcomm!

They are like Mediatek right now. recycling old chipsets, these manufacturers are getting lazy these days. pweh. Why not recycle old SD 8xx and 8genx series and make it the new 6 series. That would be acceptable.

Gsmarena is right, S is weak, then you have standard and plus is enhanced. Makes you rethink the 7s Gen 2. It sounds good but it's not a proper 7 chipset. It's mildly better than the 6 gen 1. I have no idea why the 7 Gen 1 or standard 7 Gen 2 were not used widely. They should be cheap given their age but still no one wants to make a phone with them. Feels like manufacturers profit margins and sales centre around the 6 range of chips.
