Apple still dominates US smartphone market

AnonF-1006353, 22 Nov 2024Influencers, celebrities (for status showing)
newspapers (... moreWell, the last thing I see my iPhone as is a status toy, it’s a tool that serves me just as well as any Android I ever owned. Maybe look in the mirror and re-evaluate your own priorities if you consider tech products in so shallow and materialistic a manner 🤷♂️
So little innovation??? first, what exactly is your definition of ‘innovation’, what kind of radicle new type of smartphone are you wanting?
Second, it’s a mature market segment now and has been for some time, Iterations on established design / hardware configurations is what most people who claim to be clued on this kind of thing should know to expect. Major and disruptive tech revolutions do not happen everyday day, especially when the market segment and the tech that supports it reaches that maturity.

Besides, it's easy to get rid of Google's one cus at the end of the day it's "only" a search engine that people will end up using regardless. Anyways, I haven't done much research on this so i can't have concrete opinions on this, think of what im saying as random yapping

newspapers (for clicks)
See, none of them have real tech background and that's the issue. When money and status/fashion starts to dictate tech features or availability, because it became somehow the "standard" through all the marketing and the mentioned free advertising by these instances, including the extinction of more tech-oriented brands (LG, HTC, Sony Xperia in its 2014-era with all their features and apps and innovation-firsts back then, but just not enough coverage - or the most advanced cameras in huawei phones before the ban) then there's just something wrong in the industry and people are fooled into buying status toys instead of real innovative technology. And that's exaxtly the reason why we see so few innovation in smartphone tech lately. They're all playing the milking game apple does best and there's still not enough backlash to counteract these practices

The car marked isn't as one-sided luckily, because there, no single brand would be allowed to make its car only compatible with their own gasoline-mix for the sake of 30% profit on each refill.

I mean come on, you can't negate the fact that most stupid trends (like the notch, feature and charger removal for the sake of profit, soldered components on pc/notebooks, ...) are started by apple and others think "if they get away with it, we can too". At least not only sony phones have camera buttons now, but still..

China didn't ban Google or Facebook, but they removed themselves from the market because they couldn't abide by local laws and regulations.
Even if they abide by the local laws, hypothetically speaking, they're still going to get huge flak from their own people back home for 'kowtowing' to the Chinese. So it's best for them to remove themselves from the market to avoid geopolitical issues that might arise.

Motorola/lenovo getting some love even though only half of their global portfolio is available in the States seems amazing
It is amazing because they can sell good phones in one of the most challenging markets to enter, but they are no longer prioritizing this market and some part of me thinks they will start slowly pulling out of that market once they get big internationally
