Nokia waves final goodbye to MeeGo and Symbian

02 January, 2014
Nokia has shut down the MeeGo and Symbian developer support right on schedule.

Farewell Symbian, the greatest smartphones I had run this OS. My first S60 was a Nokia 6682, then 5700 XM, E63, E5 and a C6-01 which I had until late 2012. Damn... I even kept the E5 as a backup phone and I can't enjoy the same build quality or typing speed in my Galaxy S3. Even if I jumped to Android bandwagon a while ago I still don't feel as satisfied as when I was using Symbian. Let's see what's the next OS for me

Bye bye buddy, It's all because of symbian where I stand as an android developer right now.
It's really hard for me to even hear this,
Android might have stole one as a developer due to it's openess, but only u n Nokia stole me from inside...
Loved Nokia but now I don't know at to say...
I'm not asking Nokia to get over with Android or even leave WP but live on your own not under some crap or even bring your own os like you did in oast combine symbian looks and meego's openness may be u might steal one heck of ur fans back ofcourse me...
Nokia, live like a tiger for just 3days rather than living like a rat for 100 days...

I love Nokia not Microsoft owened Mokia bcz it was such a setup by MS n S.Elop.....
Once again farewell Symbian and Meego and love u forever I'll always remember u as 1 of the greatest OS at certain times...
    Best regards
    -X Nokia fan

Wow.. @Tech_Chief you belive the rumor that microsoft offering 1 billion to samsung. Its a lie and will never happen. Nokia is a champion on symbian. And also will champion again on windowsphone even many OEMs adobt it. IF windows market has 50% share on the overall Smartphone sales, nokia will be the one that will be benefited the most

Too bad symbian phones were too expensive for me at the time before Android came out. It did seem like a Solid OS. never tried the recent ones though.

Thanks guys. You guys have said it all. My only advice to Nokia is that ''they should re-think'' & come back with a more advance symbian that can go into the ring with all the latest os. Nokia, consider your loyal customers needs. Hope u're not gonna close the nokia store where we get all the symbian apps.

AnonD-158376, 03 Jan 2014Elop is making the right decision for chosing WindowsPhone.... moreGenius, has it ever occurred to you that IF wp gets 50% of the market share; only 1% of that would be Nokia because Microsoft is begging OEMs with cash (1 Billion to Samsung) to make Windows phones.

Sony is rumored to be hitting WP, Samsung might accept the offer from Microsoft; in simple English - Windows phone progress does not mean Nokia progress.

                  Wake up!

                    S. Elop is a Trojan horse! He screwed up Nokia!

Otherwise, we can enjoy Nokia (great hardware & elegant design)that runs on Android.

Elop is making the right decision for chosing WindowsPhone. No OEMs are making a big money on android except samsung. Stop blame nokia for dropping symbian because symbian sales are already declined at a very high rate due to the emergence of android and iphone. Nokia knows that the best way to take a crown back is shifted to windowsphone. Its a risk and risking is a big part of business. If people consider windowsphone then Nokia will rise again. Now windowsPhone market is growing. If windowsphone takes 50% of all smartphone sales, how famous will be nokia again.

Symbian on Nokia phone is the best! simpLy because of simpLe basic needs esp. on "TEXTING"(many peopLe forget about that and why they buy a phone) and for caLL history.
                        Long Live Symbian!
Years from now, the recent smartphones wiLL be forgotten just Like the phones of Nokia back in 2000.

Siddharth (Sid), 03 Jan 2014 OK. I admit this is a very sad day for me. End of Symbian... morePerfect rant from you, I also believe that the reasons why symbian phones didnt sell wery well was because of dumb hardware designers at nokia. My first symbian phone was nokia 6600, second was nokia n80, Now Im using nokia n95 8gb which is currently almost 5 years old. Stable and solid phone and best phone ever made. I have been happy symbian user for about 9 years now.

I have tried many of touchscreen phones including samsung omnia hd i8910, s1, s2,s3 only to find out that touchscreen phones slow me down on everything what I wanna do with phones. After 4 days of testing each touchscreen phone I had to return those phones back to my friends, because I was getting angry like a psycho killer and thinking how much todays phone manufacturers suck. After returning to use my nokia n95 8gb as everyday phone I became happy again. Hardware keyboard that also includes answer/end call buttons just cannot be beaten.

The best thing about nokia n95 8gb is that I never need 2 hands to use it. I can even drink, eat at same time while typing a text message. Symbian does have everything I need right out the box.

I have noticed that most people dont know how to fully use all features from symbian, it seems like symbian is kindly too much professional type OS for most people.

When a website crawls to good search ranking Google sees that and immediately changes googlebot rules, even if be they unfair, so results change and you're forced to pay for adwords... Adwords are one of google's prime income and it surely makes so that you have no other alternative but pay, even if you have a good website. Not quite fair, huh? And see, that is done not to achieve more quality results it is done solely to generate money from adwords. Because after such a change you see real bot websites (I mean websites written solely to rank high, not generate any value to the user) on the top of results, having nothing to do with the search term.
Google likes to play the policeman, it frequently gives out awards and penalties like websites are circus puppies, running after it with their purses open, full of money to give. Google doesnt pay taxes either, and ultimately doesnt give a sh**t about you or your search term :D
