Finally symbian become great history of smartphone.

RIP Symbian! One of my favorite mobile OS . I fell in love with symbian during 2007 when my dad bought Nokia N70 for my uncle. I was really impressed by that phone! Then my Dad bought Nokia N82 , The best camera phone i've ever seen (He still has it) , right now my dad has Nokia C7 and I have Nokia 700 :)
                My dad even has Galaxy S3 but still he uses C7 lol . Nokia N70 , N73 ,N82, N95 , 6120 classic E72 , E5 , 700 , C7 , C6 are my favourite symbian devices :)
Thank You Symbian for all the great memories :)

I am still using my nokia c6 01 and will use till the phone runs as my primary. Because I found no where to go. I don't like android or windows because it does not touch the heart as my current phone do. True it does not support many modern apps which are like use and through. Because of that the phones with android or windows are like Chinese use and through phones which have no grace. But still it is a great camera phone with great sound quality to use. Goodbye Symbian but I will continue to be with it till the phone runs.

Microfokia is it what it is now?... ios bullshit freaken expensive( not the phone but apps & games) android(best os but budget smartphones lagg like hell) symbian( simple , battery friendly and ituitive ui) windows (smooth & fast but the ui & apps is nothing to write home abt considering its price) BB10(good for bussiness) meego( R.I.P) jolla (new born baby) Tizen ( If u gonna lag then f*ck off)
Samsung, nokia, apple, HTC, Sony, Huawei, LG etc.... "I innovate U invest , take cash from u every 1(1/2) years so your brain can no longer fuction" whats next ROBOTS POWERED BY android, ios and microsoft then in the end we distroy earth go and live in space , become fat like in WALL-E then come bck to earth and beginn all over when the term "Technology" did not exist

Farewell. My last Nokia Symbian phone was the 808. Clunky device and UI was jittery and laggy (well, it's Symbian). Booting time is at least 1 to 2 minutes. But the pictures from the superior camera of this phone was great.

I jump ship to android bc hate of ms ugly UI. Never jump to Nokia again unless MS change UI, more customisazion & give dual sim a chance.

OK. I admit this is a very sad day for me. End of Symbian means end of an era of dependable smartphones and communicators which could get through the day (sometimes even the worst of them) easily.

I don't want to drag anyone into an emotional drama or something , but I've walked with Symbian till its grave. My journey is relatively short and hence fresh. I started with an N73 in 2007 , an N95 8GB in 2008 , a Satio in 2009 , N97 mini in 2010 (wrong choice , I know) and finally a Nokia 808 Pureview in 2012.

I've got some observations about Nokia from personal experience and the countless opinions on various forums (including this one). First the laurels and bouquets:

                          1. A flashback to August 2006: I bought a Nokia 7710 only to realize that touchscreens are rubbish. Maybe that's why I never got myself an iPhone.

                          2. 2006 , October: I moved to an N73 Music Edition. Wow man !! Superb audio quality , good camera and an amazing (by today's standards) 2+ day battery life. Didn't like the keypad though.

                          3. 2007 , : Changed to an N95. While the music and battery life were not like the N73 , the camera and probably one of the first 16 mln screens made up for it.

                          4. 2008 , February: Got a Nokia N95 8GB. Wow again !! Great music , good battery life , more RAM......but no card slot. :( Cursed myself for not living or having a relative in the States. N95 North American version would’ve lasted me 3 years. Also edited a few documents for me (thanks QuickOffice).

                          5. 2008 , December: I leave for a college excursion to Infosys , Chandigarh. The high altitudes and the winter sent a chill through my spine. Took many photos. Cell phone camera imaging becomes a new hobby for me.

One day , my friends decide to take a detour from the rest of the camp and we get stuck in the middle with 3 friends (girls) down out of 7 at -3 deg. C. My friend’s oh so novel , slick , easy to use and innovative iPhone is stuck. Help is waiting down the hill with my N95 8GB.

                          6. 2009 , October: With Nokia refusing to go beyond 5MP , my only (then new Symbian touch) choice is the Sony-Ericsson Satio (Idou). Regretfully , a device only to flaunt in front of friends - woeful battery , poor music and camera.

                          7. 2009 , December: While leaving from a small-ish party from my friends , I meet with an accident that changes my life: a skull fracture that leaves me unconscious & 3.4 litres of my O negative blood on the road. But Satio not only rescues me with the call log of my friends who reach out to my mom and brother , it also endures a big scratch on its back. After a struggle worth 21 days , I’m discharged home back on the night of Christmas but I’ve been diagnosed with retro-grade amnesia.

                          8. 2010 , January: I move onto N97 mini which has much better S60 software with kinetic scroll , great battery life and a good 8GB memory + microSD card. Like my world , I am torn between a theoretically more powerful Satio vs a better overall packaged N97 Mini. I find myself thrown into a pit of depression , never to enjoy music or clicking pics like I did for 2.5 years.

                          9. 2011 , August: I choose an Xperia Arc as my gateway to Android , selling off the Satio & the N97 mini. Good camera but uhh music. About 9 months later , I find myself back amidst the mountains of Manali in June 2012 when the Arc gets stolen on the 25th , a day after my birthday.

                          10. 2012 , July: I find myself drawn to the Nokia 808. Superb camera specs , Symbian Belle FP1 (much refined & improved) , but my past haunts me. Will it be a Satio too ?? Turns out not. A month later , I also find a pleasant surprise with the free 1 year unlimited Nokia Music subscription. I plug in my headphones only to find that the reason I stood separated with Music for so many years was that there was no one who played it like Nokia did. Amazing volume , crystal clear Dolby sound. I don’t want to leave you , Symbian. Belle FP2 may’ve been trash but it extended my music contract to November 2013. A bit hurt , but still happy nonetheless.

                          And now the brickbats

                          1. The reason for Symbian's death is its simple 'inability to scale'. In an age of at least quad core smartphones , Symbian's 808 still did its best on a single 1.3GHz Broadcom chip.

Now this is an example of a great piece of engineering but how do you explain this to a layman who only knows numbers - be it CPU GHz , no. of cores and megapixels. Plus with very poor app support , you won't buy this phone just for the camera , will you ??

                          2. Nokia's own fall was a result of some very bad decisions:

                          a) 128MB only RAM for first gen Symbian-touch phones - This one was indeed a miscalculation seeing their keypad phones did very well with exactly this much.

                          b) flagships with 5MP only camera for 2-3 years -
N95 , N95 8GB (2007) and N96 (2008) , N97 (2009) - all flagships had 5MP only. OK , with the 808 we do admit that megapixels are not everything. Nokia was right that 5 MP was enough for photo sharing but it wasn't a number you could show off.

                          c) letting MS take things over - Seriously , this company had almost been pushed into a grave back in 2009 when Android wasn't even born AND the only opponent to Apple's iPhone - an alien device that came over from another 'Galaxy' to spoil things - was Symbian , but it came back in 2011 with some obviously very sly moves. Nokia did nothing in these two years (2008 and 2009) to innovate their touch platform or promote its "apps" (which by my observations are nothing but mostly simplified entry points to a website).

Anyway lets welcome the future where we’ll be surrounded by website links in the name of apps and smartphones with 16 cores but a teeny bit of storage memory. Congratulations , we’ve all been fooled.

Now I’ve moved on to Samsung Galaxy Note 3 , but my heart still belongs to Nokia. A word / plea of advice to MS: return Nokia to its people. That’s where it has always belonged. While I understand that right now you’ve taken it over in a bid to survive but trust me , demolishing this brand won’t get you anywhere. Leave the brand name and the hardware to Nokia and you do the software. Nokia has been a symbol of reliability , robustness and innovation that you have never been - be it your slow IE or the BSOD and crash happy Windows OS. May good luck follow you wherever you go , Nokia employees. Glory to the Finns.

                          Regards ,
                          Sid.

my first symbian phone have been the nokia 5700 xpressmusic , brought it just at the time it was released to the market , a year later the phones prize dropped and the support was dropped , then i moved to a nokia 5800 xpressmusic because i thought of hanging around symbian and nokia for more . again a year went on and there were only some minor firmware updates were released for it . nokia didnt do enough to develop and upgrade the symbian os which is very sad . later on apple and google took the market like a storm . meego gave nokia fans hope but it went on the same path as symbian . i never moved to a nokia again :(
