In the latest round of Huawei’s push into a Google Mobile Services-free world, the leading Chinese smartphone brand will reportedly pre-install the top 70 most popular Android apps on its future smartphones. The actual list of apps will vary by region and will be updated regularly based on the Play Store’s top charts.

However, unless there is a major breakthrough to the current scenario, Huawei will still not be able to bring some of the most popular apps like Facebook’s Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp due to the ongoing sanctions.

The new report comes from a closed-door presentation held by Huawei for journalists from Eastern Europe. Huawei is believed to put this new approach to action with the upcoming P40 series which are expected to be announced on March 26. The main reasoning behind this undertaking is to bring consumers a more hassle-free experience without the need of going through the hurdles of side-loading the APK files.

This new development comes on the heels of yesterday’s news about the newly formed Global Developer Service Alliance (GDSA) which will aim to help developers in bringing their apps to Huawei, Xiaomi, vivo and Oppo’s own app stores.

In addition, we’ve seen Huawei’s commitment to bring its own alternatives to Google’s app suite as it is already working with TomTom on a maps app. Huawei is also hard at work on polishing up its Huawei Mobile Services as a true competitor to Google’s own Mobile Services platform.
