Meika, 13 Aug 2008Hi, i am currently using k800i and im looking for an upgra... moreThe E51 and the Samsung i450 are both equipped with the Symbian OS. I recommend you go for one of these phones. If you have an unlimited data plan and if your main intension is browsing, you should go for a symbian phone. The reason i'm saying this is because symbian phones are equipped with a better browser than a normal phone like the K660i.

When you get the terms and conditions window opened just click on ACCEPT AND DOWNLOAD.

It should enable the NEXT/I ACCEPT button.

Ok, first of all, you can personalise 3 keys, the contact, calendar and e-mail keys. What more do you need ?

Secondly, with s60 being an open operating system unlike s40, Nokia don't cramp certain software into the OS seeing that they can be downloaded...the call feature you mentioned when scheduling a meeting can easily be downloaded at s60.com

I like the search feature as you can search anywhere in a name...something s40 lacks. Sometimes you may not remember the person's first name, only their surname so that thorough search feature is welcome.

My only gripe with the speaker is that it could be louder but it sounds really nice and clear especially during calls whether earpiece or loudspeaker. You get the feeling that you are using a landline.

              This phone is crap.

You cannot personalise the shorkey setup like previous nokias, the speaker is poor, for sceduling a meeting you cannot go to you contacts and add call a contact.

Worse of all if you have a lot of contacts and say you search for names beginning with C, it listed all names that have a C anywhere in the name, how stupid is that, big let down, tries to sqeeze too much into many features and many are a let down.

              Richard

                Hi,
i am currently using k800i and im looking for an upgrade. The thing is k800i has 3G but no edge, and in my area only EDGE signals are strong. So i have to make do with either a k660i, nokia e51 or im also considering samsung i450 since it has a bigger screen.
My main query is which of these phones will prove to be a real workhorse for me. Since im a heavy user of internet, and i've also got an unlimited data plan. almost all the time my phone is connected to my laptop for accessing the internet.

2ndly which of these three will have the best browsing experience which surfing the web on the phone. for me camera and music doesn't matter at all.

                plz help me out thanks

                  dear friends,
after going through almost all reviews about this phonei purchased E51 last week and i m more than happy. One strange thing i observed and that is NO ONE ever mentioned in all these opinions / reviews that THIS PHONE CAN BE SET FOR UNLIMITED SINGLE OR REPEAT ALARMS i tried myself setting up to 25 alarms and then i was exhausted but E51 didn't similarly E51 is having world clock and again u can set unlimited cities to show their local times. I feel these r great features but no one ever mentioned it as per my knowledge
This is certainly a great phone and i recommend it to everyone who is not crazy about Music or Camera features

                    To EVERYONE:

Before updating your firmware be sure to back up everything on your memory card or PC as a firmware update WILL erase all the 3rd party stuff that you put on the phone...including your precious contacts.

Before updating to version 200.34.36 I backed up everything to my memory card. After the new firmware was installed I restored back everything to the phone memory.

Everything worked out fine except the 3rd party programs I installed. I have 3 programs, Fring, Nokia Chat and Yahoo Go! 3.
After restoration ONLY Yahoo Go! worked. The others just blink when you try to open them.

So my warning to you people is that if you back up your software to your memory card before a firmware update be prepared to re-download and re-install most if not all of your programs.

I will do a backup to my PC soon and see if the same thing happens after a restoration.

Owned this phone for 6 months now. No problem using it. I don't do video calls so its drawback doesn't disappoint me. Excellent battery life, acceptable speaker for listening music, excellent signal reception, soft comfortable keys, slim, glossy metal housing. Above all, customizable with Symbian software and made even more capable with its fast ARM 11 processor. I have no regrets for buying this phone.

                                  To WINURA:

I have been alternating between my 6300 and E51. I haven't started using my E51 full time yet as I'm doing all sorts of tests.

As soon as I put my SIM card back in the E51 I will tell you the outcome of taking photos while the Silent profile is enabled.

With my previous firmware (100.34.20) the camera sounds were turned off when I enabled silent mode. I presume the same applies with the new firmware. Soon test it out.

Cris, 13 Aug 2008can you tell me please , precisly, how to get the maps on t... moreThe Nokia E51 comes with Nokia Maps 2.0 out of the factory.
(Menu > Tools > Maps) But is don't come with any maps pre installed. because of that you need your GPRS connection to browse the country and select your location. this consumes a lot of data and its very inconvenient if you're a pre-paid user. even if you're a post paid user you WILL get a huge GPRS charge in your monthly bill.

As an answer for this issue Nokia introduced NOKIA MAP LOADER software to install in your PC which has an Internet connection. (Nokia Map Loader requires an internet connection) With this software installed in your PC you can plug in your phone via cable to the PC and through that software you can download the detailed map of your country. When i say detailed, the map includes cotagories like automotive, transport, accomodation, restaurants, shopping malls, sights and other services like police stations, schools and universities in your country. (i only mentioned a FEW)

Also Nokia Maps 2.0 includes the voice navigation feature so if you already have the map in your phone you can have voice navigation for free. (unlike some navigation devices)

the Nokia E51 is not equipped with a GPS receiever. because of that in order to pin-point your exact location it requires the help of a GPS receiver with a bluetooth connection to do that. (i personally don't use this feature. i always set my default location to the nearest shopping mall or the restaurant)

you can also download the preffered voice and language you like to be insrtucted during the navigation process via the NOKIA MAP LOADER.

Once you have successfully downloaded the map and other things like the voices you do not require a network connection. so go to Menu > tools > Maps > Options > network > use network > OFF.

once everything is done using Nokia Maps in your phone only requires a bit of common sense. Hope this Helps you.
