Hello to everybody here. My new E 51 functions well, almost perfect. There is only one thing which seems a bit strange to me. I can hear very strange sound like zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz coming from far during the call and even when the phone is on the standby. Is that normal for E 51? Thanks in forward and sorry if my question is amateur.

    To WINURA:

My friend, when you first turned on your E51 did you see the Blackberry Connect in the menu or you had to install it.

I read up some stuff on it and I realise you have to sign up for the service at Blackberry's website.

I want to know if you get the link for the program after registering for the service, which is then downloaded to the phone and added to the menu or you can simply install it from the CD which comes with the phone. I'm thinking the latter.

As you can see, I have not touched the CD yet nor the user manual (smile).

Which one of my theories are correct ?

zef, 21 Jul 2008the best phone ever produced by any company only built in G... moreZEF, I also spoke about it missing GPS but now I realise I'm not missing a thing. A friend of mine bought a N95-8GB because he wanted to use the GPS when he travelled to various countries. He learnt that GPS is network dependent which simply means you have to go through your provider to be able to use it which will rack up additional costs.

He's so disappointed as he thought he would be able to use the GPS feature freely. He's now selling the phone.

Even though the E51 doesn't have a built in GPS module, it supports it. It's there in the menu and you can easily purchase a bluetooth GPS module for it and use the feature IF your provider/carrier/operator supports it.

People, don't be mislead like my friend and I was, GPS depends on your cellular provider and not a standalone thing which works directly with Satellites.

So many people make a big deal about GPS without reading the fine print.

      I don't need GPS...at least not now.

E51 is all I need now and maybe for years to come.

This is the best phone ever. It's better than Nokia E90 and definitely better than Apple iPhone 3G. I love this phone.

Original_Jamaican, 20 Jul 2008To WINURA: I checked NSU and firmware '200' is available... moreyes you will lose everything saved in your phone memory starting from the calendar. before you do so the wizard recommends you to back up all your important data. synchronize with outlook. or if you're a mail for exchange user it will automatically do it for you every time you check you mail.

and it is pointless to download F-Secure because its a trial version. and its not much of a virus guard. anyhow go to your installed applications list and delete the software first. and then if you really want try downloading again. it worked well with mine but i deleted it after the license expired.

Upgrading from 100 to 200 wont make much of a difference unless you're following the same path as i am. (smile) if you have the knowledge about mobile application developing or if you have studied about mobile operating systems it would make sense to you.

Best phone for me. I really don't go for fancy phones. My criterion are just the basics - call, text, calendar, and of course battery life. Everytime is just suitable for what I need. Battery life is great. Under minimal usage it last for a week before recharging. Under heavy usage, it last for 4 days before charging.

Did you lose everything when you upgraded to 200 ?

I plan to familiarise myself with 100 some more before taking the plunge to 200.

I'm not having any problems at all worthy to make a deal about. I have learnt that if everything works fine don't flash your phone so I honestly don't know if I will update mine to 200.

The only small issue I have is that I was trying to download F-Secure using the Download Tool and after 3 minutes or so the progress metre showed nothing so I cancelled it. Ever since that whenever I try to download it again I get a error message 'Unable to Open'.

Turning the phone on and off doesn't make a difference...neither refreshing the menus in download tool.

Anybody knows the difference between E51-1 and E51-2 ?

I suspect it have to do with the region as E51-1 is RM-244 and E51-2 is RM-426.

Hi all E51 users. I just bought my E51 last week and seems to be working just fine (also the Skype and offline function). My only problem is that the battery life (even on stand by mode) is very short. Overnight the battery is dead and if I talk with it, the battery dies in 2 hours. The battery gets very hot when charged. Any suggestions (beside take it to maintenance)???

                                To Leigh:

the phone can have several mail boxes. you may set the Email key to which ever the mail box you want to be the primary mail box of your phone. To add your hotmail account, you need to install Windows live application. it will automatically configure the email key.

                                To meme:

you cannot create or edit office documents. only viewing. but you can purchase the latest software which supports all office formats up to Microsoft Office 2007.

                                To gaurav:

Yes you can download opera browser for this phone. used opera in mine but to be honest i was not happy with it so got back with the normal nokia browser.

To everybody who has hanging problems:

apart from software issues the main reason for your phone to get stuck (SOMETIMES) is because most people don't exit the menus properly. when you exit a program or a menu by just pressing the END KEY only takes you to the home screen. my advice to you all is to close all unnecessary applications running in your phone like your virus guards (no viruses have been released to the current OS of the phone) call logs, email etc. this phone can multi task but it don't have the multi tasking ability as a computer as some would expect.

                                To masnizah binti osman:

you should've read the specs list before you bought the phone mate.
