Kako, 07 Oct 2009Original Jamaica, I am an E51 holder here in central africa... moreTo KAKO:

I realise I didn't respond to 2 things you asked:

The antivirus and the applications you will lose after formatting.

For the record I don't use any antivirus on my phone and it works fine so maybe you should abandon the thought of using any antivirus for the time being.

As far as applications goes, if you installed all your applications to memory card, after the phone is formatted and starts up, MOST applications will automatically be re-installed. As soon as the phone starts up you will see a message saying 'INSTALLING'. Some applications WON'T get re-installed so you will simply have to re-install them manually. This applies to applications you installed on your memory card.

If you installed them to phone memory then after using the restoration feature (as I guided you on) some applications should be re-installed. Once again, whatever doesn't automatically gets re-installed, simply re-install them yourself.

Personally I normally uninstall everything right before formatting and when formatting is complete I re-install back everything.

            Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970To KAKA:

I'm responding to your SOS immediately (smile).

In regards to formatting you NEED TO BACK UP FIRST!!!

There are no ifs and buts about it, once you format your E51 you will lose EVERYTHING.

First of all you can back up your entire phone contents which includes (Contacts, Text Messages, Notes, Calendar data etc.) to your Memory Card.

Go to MENU, TOOLS, MEMORY CARD, OPTIONS, BACKUP PHONE MEMORY.

For me this procedure takes 38 seconds on average because I mainly store my stuff on my memory card.

All my messaging (Text Messages & E-Mail), all my photos and video clips and all my voice recordings are on my memory card. This makes my phone memory as free as possible.

Once everything is backed up you can format your phone and rest assured you will get back everything.

There are two ways to format.

            1. Key in *#7370# in standby mode (easier method)

            2. Turn off the phone, press and hold green dial key + number 3 on keypad + asterik key (*) and finally the power button. You need to hold down ALL 4 keys simultaneously (POWER, DIAL KEY, 3 and *). While the phone powers on WITH YOU HOLDING DOWN ALL KEYS keep holding the keys until you are prompted to enter your country.

Step 1 is much easier right ? Well it is but I noticed that using step 2 I actually regained 2MB additional internal memory compared to step 1.

When you do step 1 you should have 125MB free and in doing step 2 you should have 127MB. It doesn't matter that much but thought I would mention it (smile).

Now, after formatting your phone using either step 1 or step 2, to retrieve back all your data simply use the instructions I gave you earlier to BACKUP your data BUT instead of choosing BACKUP PHONE MEMORY, select RESTORE FROM CARD. ***Make sure you do this part carefully because if you should accidentally select BACKUP PHONE MEMORY again, all your data is gone out the door!!!!!!***

Having done all this I hope you will see a difference in phone's behaviour.

Tell you what though...BEFORE doing any of the above...please take out your BATTERY, SIM and MEMORY CARD out of phone for at least 1 hour.

In taking out the battery for a certain time period the phone will do a quiet reset and when you turn it back on it will ask you to set the date and time.

Even though the battery is the main priority, I normally take out my SIM and MEMORY CARD as well because it doesn't hurt to do so.

KAKO, please let me know the outcome after you try my suggestions.

I'm always happy to help so don't be afraid to ask.

            Take care my friend.

P.S. If you are a member of Nokia's OVI service you can also backup to Nokia's server as well using the technology called SYNCML. You will find the SYNC feature in the TOOLS category of your E51's menu.
Before you can use this feature you have to set up your phone on OVI's site...afterwhich you will receive a text message from OVI and all you have to do is open the message select OPTIONS then SAVE. Once you do that you can go to MENU - TOOLS - SYNC anytime and backup to the OVI server.

For the record I backup my data to OVI and ZYB.
OVI backs up CONTACTS, NOTES and CALENDAR DATA
            ZYB only backs up CONTACTS.

Please don't be anonymous! Are we too dangerous people to keep ourselves anonymous! Anyway, firmware upgradation has following proven advantages : 01. The processor starts to work faster. 02. The memory card usage becomes prompt and faster. This becomes evident during installations on it. 03. The music searching becomes faster. I an not an internet user on my E51, so I cannot tell anything in that respect. So in brief, the better E51 becomes the more better E51.

                                Hi
to all those complaining about the E51 Camera; well its not as bad as you think.
The only problem I have is that its not that good to use at night or at low lighted areas.

But if you use is in good daylight or well lighted areas then its quality is very exceptional.
Ive been using this phone over a year now and many of the photos I take I upload them via email for my friends and I have no complants, the quality is great.

This is a great Business phone with great features, the camera was just an extra added and its quality is better than many PDA Phones.

Every Phone I have owned has been a nokia and I admitt not all nokia phones are good some are just lemons and a waste of money, but every nokia ive owned I have spend at least 1 week to study all the features and any posible flaws. This website has been one of my main sources for gathering that information.

So what ever brand you want to buy first do your research it will save you some disapointments and money.
                                Be Blessed!

You obviously don't know the positioning of phones. The E51's focus is mainly on connectivity and NOT camera. It does it's main priority well and that's connectivity and catering to business. This is a all-rounder phone so appreciate the flexibility. It has a little of everything.

One of the best business phones ever made, I have it for almost 2 years and I practically don't need a new one. Very solid phone, dropped it many times and has no scratch.

I'm looking foreward to see its succesor, e55, but from what I've heard it has many bugs, so I'm sticking to e51 for the time being.

PS: for all of the people that say the camera sucks: Yeah, it sucks compared to other phones, but you don't buy an e-series for its camera, you buy it for its stability, office applications, great battery and bad-ass cpu. :)

the nokia e51 is still the worlds best phone ever made, and its a pity that no other fone maker other then nokia has such a fone in their profile, this fone is so balanced, so so good looking...and has almost all the features of super expensive fones, love it, love it, love it...ask me, i sold my nokia e61i to get this. e61i is good, but too bulky, but the e51 is way too ahead.
