Bev, do you have the MP3s selected in your playlist at the moment? If you do, they won't play as ringtones if you have a call. Deselect them through your MP3 playlist and they should then work.

Bev you are right I tried out the mp3 as a ringtone today and it didnt work, instead it plays my default midi ringtone, "we will we will rock you". I tried so many times, but it didnt work. Im very anoyed with this now. I still like the phone, but not happ that certain thing on my phne dont work and it seemes as though I keep discovering more. All the problems I have discovered so far I can live with, lets just hope there isn't any more.
Ps, I'm doing a web design module at university, I have based my web site on the X3 suppliying wallpapers and ringtones, 3gp clips, I've hosted the site on a free server so if any one wants any free stuff for the x3 just pay a visit, if u do please can u sign my guest book, my teacher said my sites very lame which it is, but she anyoyed me by saying that so i wna show here that peple visit it by showing her the messages, Thanks guys.

Oh thanks, that's no problem. I feel bad for saying that now! I've got MP3's but I think there's a problem with my phone as they don't hold as ring tones (and I'm sure I'm doing it the right way) PS: I've read a lot of this forum and I think most people would be lost without your help! Cheers ;)

Alison, funnily enough what happenned to me was that I had travelled 20 - 30 mins to my nearest o2 shop, put the sim and battery in just outside the shop and it worked! WhatI think is the cause is that the phones memory is clogged up and it needs a break. What was the alst thing you did before it turned off? I was in the middle of setting a calendar appointment, presses to save and it went blank. What I would do is leave everything out for around 24-36 hours and see what happens.
Good Luck!
Nick
(p.s hope i helped with my guideline post...)

I've had the O2 X3 for a month & a half, & its had its problems! The battery seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes it'll last a couple of days on one charge, & other times it wont last the day, & this is on the same amount of use. I was also not impressed with the fact that O2 sell this as an MP3 playing phone when its not because you have to buy the adapter & memory card reader to use this feature. I think these (or at least the adapter) should have been supplied by O2. Aside from those things I do quite like the phone. The camera's quite good, though I dont think its as good as my old E800 was, but the video facility is great!
And now to my problem:
Yesterday morning my phone was working fine, but by yesterday afternoon, it'd switched itself off & wouldn't come back on. Having just read these posts I noticed that Nick said something about them not switching on with a sim card in, so I took it out, & lo & behold it came on! I'm gonna try what you said now Nick, & leave the battery off for 24 hours, & then see if it works. If not i'm screwed, because I bought it off ebay, & my O2 insurance have told me they wont cover me, beacuse I didnt buy it from them! Great! Fingers crossed your theory works Nick!!!

Bev, thats the correct way to set an mp3 as a ring tone. Personally I've not tried it, and I dont have my memeory card on me now so I will go home and have a try. I'll let you know.

Ste, see my guideline post!
Leave the battery out for around 24 hours, then it will then work. Its the same as the sim problem with me x3. The reason the signal goes down with a SIM card in is that in emergency mode (ie no sim) the phone connects to the highest signal levelled network in the area! You, of all people should know that!
its impossible to send via IR
and for MP3's AGAIN!!! LOOK THROUGH THESE POSTS!
I was going to ignore this forum but I can see people are getting lost without me presence :)

iv had this phone now for just over two months now and to say the least i am dissapointed with it. for the first month or so every time i went to reach the phone out of my pocket it would have turned its self off by itself or occasionally at the end of a phone call.
just after christmas the phone then decided it didnt want to charge up anymore (through no fault of the charger) when i finnally managed to get some power out of the thing it then decided it would on show the main screen, lights etc without any sim card present. when the phone has a sim in it shows the the signal on the external display only with no lights or anything. i took the phone into o2 two weeks ago and they have sent it off. i still await its return

I spent soem time trying to develpe an application for the x3 that would send files using the IRD, but the problem is unlike other phones which u need to switch the ird on then u can return to the make screen, with the x3 when u put the ird on , it says connecting, meaning its listening for a connection from another device, this means i can't load the application without stoping he IRD. I dont know why it was made like that, other wise it wouldn have been great as this phone don't have bluetooth.

The phone is supplied with a min SD card, you need an adapter to put the mini sd car into so it becomes a full size sd card, u then put the adapter into ur memory reader. If you buy a new memory card, put it into ur phone first, the phone will creat four folder on the memory card. relavent files must be placed in the correct folder.
