19 March 2015
A quality camera has always been a big part of Galaxy flagships and Samsung is pushing new improvements every six months. The two-step cadence goes Galaxy S then Note then S again – we're at the Galaxy S6 step of this cycle and...

Do you see what is happening at samsung welnot content with copying design they are becoming a copycat in software algorithms too ! Toned down saturation sharpness re hallmarks of iphones from day one and so are in Sony and htc cameras ! Manual mode was in Nokia's and htcs from along time . also when ISOCELL was launched in s5 it was marketed as next big thing while it was poorer then s4 ! Now they are back with Sony !

AnonD-376951, 20 Mar 2015I don't really care tbh if the iphone 6s is a major upgrade... moreAs against Note 4 I agree (it does have premium materials as well), maybe S5 as well (made from plastic but, you can get S5 dirty cheap), but as against iPhone or other competitors it offers fair price.

My point was the S6 is over priced and currently offers poor value for money in comparison to the opposition.

Why are you so generous for iJunk?

Why just not be honest, iJunk doesn't stand a chance with its ancient camera.

But instead you just soften that message saying that is stood for video (how? we comparing 4k vs FullHD), but was behind in camera because of low pixel count (not only).

I is not just behind.. it is miles behind, this message should be clear in conclusion, but now it sound that iPhone has almost same camera, which can actually be compared and produce similar results.

no one, 20 Mar 2015Irrelevant. They can't get their own cameras to work better... more I wasn't taking about their phone cameras which should have been obvious given that a Sony phone wasn't included in the Review comparison. I was referring to fact that all four use a sony sensor so no matter which phone is best, Sony still wins.

I have an iPhone 5 and a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. Comparing the two camera-wise, iPhone is better. Though the Xperia is 20.7MP, the output is not that crisp. the color is not that vibrant. I know most smartphones now, maybe including iPhone, uses Sony lens' technology (which is o course topnotch) but iPhone renders or processes better photos.

Nobody buys a phone just for the camera. Nokia learned this the hard way! It's the whole package that counts. BTW where is the slow motion videos comparison? And another test that could be done is how the photos look after being updated to Facebook(as 99% of the photos end up there), which downgrades the quality btw.
If you want to see the real capabilities of a phone camera go to Flickr and see there the best any camera can do.

An important factor that this comparison seem to turn a blind eye to is value for money. The only area the S6 is streets ahead of the Note 4 is cost. The S6 Edge with 64gb of memory with 4gb of datais going to set you back £48 a month plus £160 up front. The Note 4 with 4gb is currently £40 a month (plus £10 for the 32 gb memory card) offers far better value for money. (A difference of £350 over 2 years) (£180 if you compare to the standard S6) Camera wise the situation for S6 will get even worse later in the year if the Z4, the Note 5 and Apple's 6s all adopt Sony's new sensor due for release in the Spring.

                              http://www.engadget.com/2014/11/17/sony-exmore-rs-imx230/

Early adopters of the S6 will thus end up paying a high premium for an inferior camera phone.

Sigh.. GSMArena - there's no reason to name and shame Fruit phones for their lacklustre camera abilities and that they are 4 years out of date. Only their fanbois with their beer goggles thinks their photos look better.

In the verdict, gsmarena just confirmed how excessively they are biased for Samsung.

Sony still wins no matter which phone is considered to take the best photos/video as they are all using a Sony lens.

There is something which hasn't been mentioned, the S5 in this review is the SM-G900F, the S5 SM-G901F (supplied by EE in the UK) has the same Sony sensor as the Note 4 and S6, be interesting if this was also added in.

oh shi... note 4 is sharper. didnt see that coming. And again, Note line is a king, even that the s6 is a great device.
