HTC One A9 review: Rejuvenation

28 October, 2015
HTC One A9 is not just a phone, it's a corporate rejuvenation. A9 is the boost HTC needs to swim out of the murky waters and claim its piece on the market. HTC may have outed a few very capable phones this year, but it needs a game changer, a statement that the king is still alive and kicking...

I even clicked in the Taiwan. The super smooth image of the phone on its side like against the lunar, coal looking background is stunning. I just want it.

Forget this phone. That nokia 808 screen still hasn't been beaten on the sunlight legibility board in over 3 years. That shows how amazing nokia was at making a phone. They weren't boring like the manufacturers are doing right now.

Overpriced phone with outdated hardware. HTC is doomed.

So I bumped into a HTC rep in London and I had a look at the A9 and Wow. This phone is smooth to use and lovely to hold although I would use a case, don't trust myself.

The screen looks amazing and the camera was superfast and sharp. We lined it up next to an iPhone and yes it does look like an iPhone but, it's amazing how the iPhone looks like a HTC. The A9 is a flat M8 but I could care less what it looked like as long as I liked it.

I was really amazed how fast it was even through it was running via adopted storage. Which means the memory card now becomes part the phone storage.
BlinkFeed has just got so much better with much more content . As for the sound, there nothing on the market that can touch this phone and yes I have seen the Sony Z5, not for me.

There is a bit of a issue around price and when I compare the A9 to an iPhone 6s, it's cheaper and has the edge on specs for what I use.

Well done HTC really love what you've done with the A9.

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2015Great review. However the A9 is doomed. Last year HtC O... moreIf only HTC would start to listen to users/buyers again a d actualy build what lots of folk want,a new hd2,it's still the best device anyone has sold anywhere yet,a new up dated hd2 would either save them or shut lots of us up,they keep building pricey phones that flop in sales anyway, try another, but listen to what buyers say first, first thing is to make it as easy and as unlockable as hd2 was to root etc,it might just save their sad bums, cos I have a desire 510e and a) it's almost impossible to root, and hardly worth doing anyway, all you can do is get rid of HTC bloatware like doe,but no nice rims,it's either adopted or cyanogen, nothing else exists for the 510.
It should be made illegal in the eu to sell devicesbwithout a manufactueres supplied root kit, those of us who buy devices outright,at very high prices are being ripped off,it's like buying a car that has 7 speed gearbox, but you can only use 4 gears,or a dslr that has crazy good autofocus like the Sony A77 mk 2 but it only will work for faces,I.e it's been purposely crippled,so what are we paying good money for, without full root, things that HTC and others boast about and use in their adverts are physically impossible, like usb org, very handy but locked off without full root...

Wish more companies would listen and give us bigger batteries! All the surveys have indicated that consumers (the people buying your phones) want better battery life.
Great phone, bad battery life, no buy!
I would rather take a 8 or 9 mm thick phone with a +3000 mAh battery.
I have enough to worry about to also have to worry about my phone's battery!
All phones should aim for at leased 24 hrs no matter what you throw at them!
Please compare the A9 with the Sony M5, Camera, Battery, Cost etc
Sincerely hopes HTC builds on this, they are going in the right direction.
I will stick with my Sony's for now!

As per usual, too much timeetc spent worrying about what a device looks like, rather than what it can do,boom sound speakers have been the only thing that has kept HTC in the game for last 18 months,it's the only distinctive thing they had over rivals, brilliant audio,so what do they do for the device that is meant to save HTC"s sad sorry bum,do away with BoomSound,so what is it that is meant to distinguish A9 from all the other boring cloned devices on the market ? Who ever is in charge of major decisions at HTC needs sacking, they don't have a clue, they keep trying to chase imaginary customers in USA and China, while totaly ignoring what loyal long term existing buyers of their devices want/need.
If this is meant to be the start of weaving HTC,then I would suggest they will cease to exist very soon, either bankruptcy or buy out are the only options left, they obviously have no clue to market forces in the real world.
I have been a loyal buyer of HTC since they were xda and even I have trouble either recommending them to others or convincing myself to buy one,the only decent device they make is very pricey and hard to find and doesn't have the right radio stack for a lot of places,Butterfly devices only really built for Asian market,if they can do it for Asia, why cannot they do it for an eu specific device ? If they priced it properly, they might actually sell more than the usual over priced wee devices they keep trying to foist on us...

In 2012 The HTC One S was the fastest mobile around. quality tip to toe. Back then battery endurance was at 35hrs. Total pleasure and 3 years later with S4 chip, it still sings along. GSM remarked at the time " As far as raw CPU performance goes, Snapdragon S4 is the king right now - don't fall for the "bigger is always better" trap and think four cores always beat two"
Well as for the A9, i get 11 hrs more. Hell, while I think of it, quite a few colleagues complain about their iphone batteries falling far short so why all the fuss. just enjoy what you want and be happy. If the quality of my One S has been anything to go by, then the A9 will be a total and absolute pleasure to use. Yup sure, bigger batteries are good, so are many things in all facets of life but doesn't mean to say the lesser ones are not any more attractive and wonderful to use. At the end of the day, for me this is thee perfect upgrade.
Cant wait for the sexy Cast Iron version. I don't understand the economics of holding that beast back.
