LG G5 vs. Samsung Galaxy S7 edge: Flagship slugfest

24 February, 2016
This is why we love the MWC - some of the best phones of the year were announced almost side by side. Two of the headliners are the LG G5 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and we know how heated the competition between G-series and Galaxy flagship can get.

S7 is perfect if it had infrared, usb type C and stereo speakers but it don't have it so it's not perfect. unlike G5 it has infrared, usb type C reversible connector and stereo speakers.

    I said that the cam features are a lot than those in the S7 and the G5 captures photos with Natural colors, also have 16:9 cam with higher Megapixel (16/8 cams vs 12/5mp cams)

    but I totally agree that the G5's back is totally rubbish and has the worst appealing back design I've ever seen between LG's smartphones,
    thus, that's makes picking anyone of the two confusing, but If you don't focus alot on the camera then the S7 is the phone to buy with its superior battery, coolest screen, premium design with cool 3d-thermo processed cover

      Actualy people buy premium gadget, for many reason, don't bother arguing which one better. The fact, Samsung and Iphone are the leader on smartphone market. Marketing strategy (knowing what many people need) and customer/product support are the key they become big.

          AnonD-109721, 27 Feb 2016There is no contest. Only real advantage that G5 has over S... more#1 they should be comparing the S7 to the G5 not the S7 Edge. Because price wise, That would be more of an even comparison.
          #2 marketing is extremely powerful. Don't underestimate the power of marketing.
          #3 if you compare S7 to G5, I would take G5. S7 doesn't excite me. If you want to spend tons of money for the S7 edge then go for it lol. G5 has more to offer. I guess that's why the G5 won in Barcelona and S7 did not.

The back looks a cross between big boils and the rear of an old tv with its jack plugs, and as for the front most flagships now let alone that s7 have an incomparably better front.
              The phone is probable fine as an upgrade for diehard lg fans who won't buy outside anyway, its clearly an lg model.

                There is no contest. Only real advantage that G5 has over S7 Edge is that potential which comes with modular design (but knowing LG, it will stay just that - potential, gimmick). Essentially everything is better on S7:

                * IP68 certified
                * similar dimensions, yet bigger display
                * better low light performance camera
                * superior dual-pixel focusing
                * MUCH better battery (this ALONE is good enough reason to ditch G5) - 3600 vs 2800, simply no contest.
                * Exynos/Mali-T880 variant

                Also, it looks 10 times better than G5, only a blind man can say otherwise :)

                For those saying GSMArena is "defending/favorising" Samsung - accept the simple truth - S7 Edge IS better device, and sales figures will confirm this. iPhone 6S/Plus and S7/S7 Edge SIMPLY ARE the best devices on the market, and no niche/gimmicky products (like G5) will change that. And stop talking about "marketing" being reason for good sales numbers - it's NOT about aggressive marketing - you can't fool people to buy 800 dollar device, just because of marketing - people do know what they are paying for.

                      The G5 shots are really bad, they look like paintings, bad processing and low lens quality (especially the 8 Megapixels). The 16:9 ratio is nicer than the 4:3 one but they should really go for a 3:2 photographic ratio as well...

                      Interesting to see that you still have the risk to end up with a bad camera even in 2016 with big manufacturer names. One would think they should all be capable of, more or less, putting together a good camera performer but that's not the case.

                      Anyway, the Galaxy line seems to be fairly constant and consistent in terms of image quality with each iteration, which is a good thing, at least you now you will have a good camera with the new model.

                      Low light performance is not so good, especially on the G5, if you compare that to the night shots of the Meizu MX5 for example... But overall, it is a win for the S7 and a proof that resolution is not everything, again.

                            One important thing they forgot to mention about PROS for the LG G5 is that it uses USB-Type C that seems like a huge advantage to me.

                              4:3 ratio is horrible, and every body agrees with that, I abandoned the 13mp option in my s4 and stick with the 9.6mp cuz of the 4:3
                              So nothing will change when I'm getting the S7 -__-
                              moving on there is the yellow cast that is clearly seen in every photo in the test, even in low low light the G5 colours where consistent unlike the S7

                              The selfie camera isn't really changed from the S6, also not in the level of the G5's cam ,
                              not to mention the cool extra wide cam in the G5

                              even if every thing else is goof but A flagship phone SHOULD BE BETTER THAN that

                                    And I know and I would say everybody knows that after only very few updates Samsung TouchWiz gonna lag.

                                    Now I've note 5 and this is the last from Samsung I'm not gonna buy any phone from Samsung. Hands down we mostly use UI rather than camera or any other thing. It's really bad
                                    When it comes to LG I haven't used many phones
                                    But the Optimus g it was good unfortunately I had dropped and screen was broken and my friend had LG g2 and according to him it was good.
                                    I used g4 a bit it was nice battery was a bit below par. I've used enough Samsung devices if I gonna choose in between them I'll be choosing LG G5.
