LG G5 vs. Samsung Galaxy S7 edge: Flagship slugfest

24 February, 2016
This is why we love the MWC - some of the best phones of the year were announced almost side by side. Two of the headliners are the LG G5 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and we know how heated the competition between G-series and Galaxy flagship can get.

ithehappy, 25 Feb 2016Seriously GSMA? Put LG where they belong, that is nowhere. That's very subjective considering that this time around, LG was the most "innovative" company this year bringing in a new design and functionality while Samsung refined the design of their already beautiful S6 (Though I don't like the camera bump and the slipperyness of the phone)

It's really simple for most GSMArena readers: which ever phone scores higher in Antutu, wins.

in digital image camera world, Mega Pixel number still play big role,
this has been proven many times
apple always lost because of this,
            HTC tried too but failed
now Samsung going the same road
even galaxy S6 edge is better than S7 edge.

lg clearly wins in the camera and innovation department. design is subjective but polishness and finishing is better on samsung. not to mention screen to body ratio and that would be exceptional for s7 edge. not the regular s7 though.
coming back to camera i prefer more natural identical to what we see through our eyes like pictures from g5. they are also without any over processing and much less noise and details are exceptional. s7 image appears to have a yellow tint, more unnatural and pronounced, lacks details, over processed and punchy. but in extreme low light s7 has the slight advantage because of the sensor aperture setting

Though G5 is inch ahead of S7 but still G5 will fail to make money... Samsung anyway will make money with its flooded devices...

Well... still S7's Snapdragon 820 Benchmark is yet to reveal...

The camera did more than just low light, and low light is very imoortant for most people, as in any other scenario they can't tell the difference.

But the exynos chipset is superior. Especially in terms of GPU. You have to remember that the adreno GPU is quite large and cannot sustain performance due to heat. The Mali gpu doesn't have this problem, and the s7 also has liquid cooling system, so it'll be far better.

Samsung seems to be at its best this year, and you'd be foolish to not buy it if you were planning to before.

LG G5 has clearly sacrificed details per pixel as this is not even close to the G4 let alone V10. S7 Edge takes better shots in day light, Low light shots the G5 is more sharper at the center but move outwards that horrible post-processing takes over, makes everything else soft and smeared out. S7 Edge looks better in comparison. In grand scheme of things both phones are meh, LG V10 is far better. If LG Launches a V10 like phone with SD820 and large screen, might be worth the wait.

I love the humble response we get from the people who give the G5 the thumbs up. It's a fictional conclusion. The G5 is a better phone whether you like it or not.

When you look at real life function and compare the 2 its undeniable.

Samsung was marketed better in their early days therefore causing them to have a better following.

I used to laugh at the thought of purchasing any product from LG. Maturity takes over and half my home is filled with their products. Having an open mind is the key. LG innovate us with awesome products. Cant wait for my G5 :)

LG vs Samsung ? Do you think that these two brands are really competing with each other ? Hmm, I don't think so, anyway there is always another competitor which is increasing its market share and doesn't need wider lens or better dark environment imaging.

I dont know about this. Last year the S6 in most tests had better dynamic range while gsm said otherwise.
And the big one is that the S6 had CLEARLY better audio than the G4 in almost every single available video but gsm gave that to the G4 as well

AnonD-81204, 25 Feb 2016I'm really disappointed with Samsung's flagships .. rea... moreObviously you have a axe to grind with Samsung as what you say leaves out some important advantages mentioned of the S7 (could the reason be the 820 model isn't available in your country? - Eventually the 820 will be available through Amazon regardless). For starters, I guess you forgot the S7 autofocus is much faster...tell me there aren't situations that matters. Also, most of the time, the average user won't notice the performance difference between the phones. I could see situations where someone who does a lot of multi-tasking or has an app designed to use all cores (which the article mentioned) could see a noticeable performance advantage on the S7. Finally, you neglected to notice the huge difference in battery size between the two phones. Would you say that time between recharging doesn't matter to you, hmmmm?

I take a lot of low-light photos with my phone, so I would go with the S7 despite that warm yellow hue on the photos (I use Adobe anyway, so that's easily dealt with. Also, the yellow hue is a post processing issue, which Samsung could easily deal with in the production model by tweaking the code.)

If I was someone who takes a lot of video with my phone, I'd go with the G5. It's obvious the video clips are of higher quality than on the S7.
