Huawei P9 review: Ascension

15 April, 2016
Huawei pulled the wraps on its next flagship in London in early April. But do you know what's better than London? Shooting London with the Huawei P9. The city looks magical throughout the P9's Leica lens and the phone feel fabulous throughout your eyes. Yes, the Huawei P9 has a lot going on and all of it seems promising.

Huawei P9 can play any android game without any issues .
Other phones have way more power in GPU sector .
        But P9 has FHD screen , so MP4 GPU isn't a problem .
But it's better to go for the 4GB RAM version as it's better in multitasking.
3GB version is a bit slower in multitasking compared to Galaxy S7 .
But the 4 GB version is par with SD820 phones in multitasking.
To me The 'PLUS' variant is the one to go for ...

The GPU is about the resolution rendered to be displayed onscreen and not the resolution capability for recording video.

robogo, 16 Apr 2016I believe the inability to record 4K video is not really a ... moreI agree. 4k in a phone is a nice to have. If you're serious about video recording are you really going to do it with a phone? Most the audio available with the video also isn't up to parsons why does someone really need it? I'd be interested in hearing the reasons.

I believe the inability to record 4K video is not really a dealbreaker. First of all, what are you going to record that you absolutely need 4K? If you plan on making Youtube videos, you're far better off with professional or semi-professional video cameras. Second, if you do make a Youtube video, you need to upload it, of course. 4K videos are HUGE. And in most of the world, data is still expensive, so if you plan to upload more than a couple of videos, you need a lot of gigabytes in your monthly plan, or access to a solid wired connection via Wi-Fi (or physical connection via USB to a computer) to be able to upload them. If you want to film, say, family occasions... I don't see why FHD wouldn't be enough.

I am sorry, everyone, but I'd rather take a good quality Full HD video than an awful 4K.

Definitely among the better flagships this year only let down by a high initial price, Fm radio omission and lack of 4k. Otherwise no complaints, althpugh battery life should have been better and they should have made the base model 64 GB to really pitch it against the mighty competition. These are small things (for a company as big as Huawei) but would have turned it to one of its kind beast.

The photo took by P9 are excellent, it is sharp without overshapening, the contrast is high, color is accurate, noise level are low ;)
The only one missing is OIS.. making it not "perfect"
If the price is lower a bit, sure grab one for my collection.

The supernight mode is very good, it is like P8, like it, and also the light painting (star track mode :D

Well...there you go. That's Leica tech for you. No wonder the camera performance bested every other devices, they know what they're doing. They are on the market for what? 167 years? Whaaaat? Yes sir! Long before anybody even heard about Samsung, Sony, LG, not to mention Apple. Great partnership Huawei. Also...please stop whining about the phones performance and read the review, not just the conclusion. It states, that no matter what you throw at it right now, it won't make it stutter. And it runs much cooler, than everyone's favourite Snapdragon with Adreno on board. I rest my case there. All the other aspects are decent. Sure, video recording could be better (can't be bothered with the lack of 4K), but I get that wasn't their focus. And me personally, I don't really record many videos with my phone, so it's not a deal braker. I only wish, that the sound and battery department would perform a little bit better, but since I'm waiting for Plus version anyway, this will be rectified in the nearest future. Overall...I'm happy for Huawei. They really showed that Chinese companies can (and often do) offer an appealing alternative to the "usual flagships". Seems like they went from "cheap crap" to "cheaper quality" (unless we mention HTC =P) Great review GSMA. Now waiting for Plus.
