Sony Xperia XZ1 review: XZibit one

11 September 2017
Sony was never a company to blindly follow trends, having its own approach to the mobile market. A fact perfectly illustrated by the company's latest flagship duo - the XZ1 and XZ1 Compact, which you only need to look at once to recognize the Xperia pedigree. The 2017 Sony flagships proper combine the best elements across the lineup to try and cut themselves a solid piece of the holiday sales pie.

It's a shame Sony is still stuck in 2013. Same bland design, mediocre battery capacity and battery life, the SoC is great for sure but overall the phone doesn't really compete with today's devices.

Photo quality has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether it's a single or dual camera setup. Zero, nada, nothing. Photo quality has everything to do with the camera sensor, the lens quality and the necessary firmware, regardless of whether it's a single or dual cam. Makes sense?

Sony Fanboy Bitches, 12 Sep 2017I just wanna laugh at the V30's so-called "P-OLED" display ... moreWell, i agree with you.
OLED is supposed to give 0 black levels and infinite contrast ratio like Samsung's Super AMOLED, but OLED by LG isn't impressive, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 has 0.005 and 1:68200 contrast ratio. (I wonder if Samsung starts on OLED TV market, hmmm).

And yeah, LG's display technology is behind Samsung's and JDI's.

Read before u comment down. How it works? Look, sometimes dual camera smartphones can (not) beat single camera smartphones. Two very good examples are GALAXY S8 and HTC U11. What's wrong? Does it always follow the "dual cameras perform better than single camera" logic? No! I guess u have little understanding of technology and not me

So, basically, when Oreo hits XZ and XZs, they will have better battery life than XZ1. I don't care how "efficient" the new chip is, it's still a smaller battery. Same story they told us moving from Z3 to Z5 and Z5 to XZ. My old Z3 still outperforms the XZ in battery life, with same usage, on stock 6.0.1.
Sony used the same marketing trick here as Samsung did with Note 8. Hey, we put a smaller battery in there, but look, it lasts longer than the last years model (which uses a two years old OS). Buy it quickly before the new OS comes to those older devices with bigger batteries, before you realize those will outperform your brand new device in terms of battery.
Make the phone a bit thicker to cover that horrid camera bump, and voila, there's your extra space for at least 300mAh more, probably even more than that.
I'd be more than fine with an 8mm thick Xperia, it would free up so much space for battery and make more room for speakers, they would be able to shrink the top and bottom bezels. If you ever disassembled a modern Xperia device, you know how tight it is in there and how much space is sacrifised only to make the device thinner. It's amazing engineering and layout, unlike HTC for example, but a lot of effort for no usefull purpose. Specially the speakers, the speaker itself isn't really that big, but the speaker housing and assebly are huge in footprint, but very thin. Hence the huge top and bottom bezels, which I don't mind at all, but still.

Sony, Sony, Sony, why, oh why. a little bit more screen, less bezel - 5.5 would be good with the same specs and get your tv app working worldwide so we can stream...I like your buttons on the right. My wife loves you, but hates you too.
