Samsung Galaxy Note8 review

16 September 2017
The Note8 is here and we can't help but feel the tension rising, especially in Europe where this is the first Note device to officially land in two years. Some time it's been, so a lot is riding on the Galaxy Note8.

I'm impressed the snapdragon lasted longer in video playback. It might be only 30 minutes but that's 30 minuted longer as opposed to the issues few hours less.

That aspect ratio is killer for me.
I just dont like the long skinny mobile.

I believe it is somewhere around 50.6gb

I cannot find anywhere a setting to change video recording compression to HEVC. I have a US Note Snapdragon version on T-Mobile.

This could be one of the most advanced phones ever. But regarding looks... the S8+ (not the s8 which is good looking but a bit narrow looking-overall, for my taste) still trumps the note 8 for me. Look at the picture of the s8+ on the conclusion page of this review. It is so joyously beautiful :) Not just me quite a few other people like the s8+ design over the current note design.

So I hope samsung keeps the above design for the S9+ series too while keeping this design for the next note. (as some people seem to like this design more than that ). I hope they dont mix up both the designs. Two slightly different design languages for two different phone lines to keep both the camps happy :). If they want to make a completely bezel less phone for the S9 series i hope they make a different phone for it. Like a 6.4 or even a 6.6 inch phone? (because a 6.6 inch phone with the two top bezels even as thin as the bezels the s8 series phones have now.... could be 'very tall' and unwieldy for a lot of people).

Apple made two different designs for different phone sizes of the same phone line, so why shouldnt (or cant?) samsung?

I have had mobile phones since my first was hard wired into my car and the handset on a bungee wire. NOKIA to IPHONE to ANDROIDS including Note 4. Note 8 is outstanding, holding the phone in my left and using my index figure with the fingerprint sensor is way, way easier and more practical then previous home button sensors - more often than not a two handed operation. The screen, the camera, the functionality, all eclipse any phone I have owned before. Cost is not an issue for me I could buy the latest iPhone as well but it doesn't come close to the Note 8. Thinking about getting one, don't hesitate, it is simply the best phone ever produced.

And the battery life should have been way more, but is surprisingly great still

The note 8 is a beast but 2 bad things I dislike, 6 gb ram???? Don't think so, go to settings than device maintenance click clear or fix, still shows 2.4 gb??? It's only 4 or less, also the battery is terrible life...otherwise ok.on a scale 1 to 10, 10 the best I give it a 7..

For those stating the note 8 doesn't reach 1200 nits of max brightness under direct sunlight. It actually does but it's based on the battery percentage level of the device and how bright the sun is shining on the device. Samsung has specifically implemented a software mechanism of only allowing certain brightness levels at certain battery percentages and certain lighting conditions.

That's why you see different sites reporting different numbers. Displaymate tests their devices on the brightness sunlight possible or under conditions that simulate this type of brightness.
