Nokia 8 long-term review

02 February 2018
Past the initial hype and a few months after our initial review full of benchmarks and tests, we’re ready to tell you what the Nokia 8 feels like when used as a daily driver for a longer period of time. Hopefully, this would give you a fuller picture of the device is capable of.

AnonD-83644, 06 Feb 2018It was on Windows MobileSorry i actually responded to someone else, apparently his comment is deleted... kind of wierd. I had very few to no problems on w.mobile with whatsapp. Actually the ones i had (not reciving notifications, sometimes) i also have on android. It is actually a whatsapp fault, their servers are pretty much unstable since they moved to the so called "encryption". The app is just like a launcher, everything is on their servers. The servers do not send the packets towards the app sometimes. Leting users think you are not having internet. While accessing the app will automatically look for information, by "herself" thus, becomming the messages that were send hours ago. This was actually the only problem, the fun part is that i still have it. I always tought that whatsapp is actually shi..ng on windows users.

Let me guess, you know who's the king of cedonia too, right? Yes kid, i use and used smartphones since 2003. Probably you were like 5 at that time. And i owned from samesung “crappiest devices ever“ to Sony Ericson “some were good, some were meah at best“ to Motorola “meah“ to Siemens “this ones i actually liked more then nokia, the dumb ones were quite smart". As fir camera. Everything till date is behind Nokia no matter what. Maybe their is a device or two that does good pictures and in comparison with nokia devices at their times, but that's about it. Now, go cry somwhere esle. I still have devices that can prove what i claim. You kid, don't have them. So, go swim or do something positive. You need it.

Sonyuser85, 04 Feb 2018Contrast or what?! N8 was weaker than any SE at that time o... moreGetting desperate? City lights vs nature and no lights? After downloading and adjusting the gamma, I'd say both photos are equally good, however the N8 one is 16 MP while the Sony one was downscaled to less than 1 megapixel so you can't judge it by any standards. If I took a photo with a 70 megapixel potato and downscaled it to 1 MP it would be just as good.
Apparently you can't tell the difference between contrast and dynamic range?
I said "even without flash" but your conspiracy theory mind only registers the things it wants.
Anyway, very few people wanted to buy SE phones. I liked my K800 but every time I took it in my hand the cheap plastic would squeak like it was wrapped in a plastic bag. Mobile Review said it was the same when the phone was new. My sis had a SE "Live With Walkman" - same thing, squeak squeak. I tried a few new ones in the shop - squeakety squeak. Now they make their flagships from metal and glass, but it's too late. And their cameras are behind - or, more precisely, their image processing. All you have are placebo posts saying "But Sony is good too because I say so". And you accuse the others of doing what you're doing just because you don't know photography but want to look smart. ;-)

Carol, 05 Feb 2018Throwing some links in here does not proove your statement.... moreSo you used SE phones before N8, still have them in your pocket?! Thank you for confirming. I throw proofing links, you throw placebo effects!
Placebo effect = Bad disk drives = Fanatic minds = Useless people

Yeah, we all do not like it, but from 7 to 8 their are some pretty major changings. As i first bought the device it went through 5 updates. After that, it was on oreo with the last security patch. It went well for like 3,4 days then it started the sharade. Apps won't cone up, even after reinstalling and al sorts of stupid problems. It is my first android that i actually use as a daily driver and i said. So, nothing changed in the android world, a crappy system is a crappy system after all. Anyhow, i formated, cause i needed to. After that, never had any problems anymore, not one from many discribed here (besides slow camera focus in low light) now i am at the fourth week. I am not saying android is greater then before, cause for me, is still a very fragmented and moronic system. And after so many updates and workarounds is still no where neer windows mobile, when it cones to quallity of working (making me wander, why people like this system). But well, the problems stopped, is a start.

AnonD-669148, 04 Feb 201818:9 is SMALLER than 16:9! 18:9 looks horrible, too narrow... more18:9 is smaller than 16:9 only for the same diagonal (a 5.2" screen is bigger in 16:9 ratio), but 18:9 are bigger for the same width. The thing is I don't expect anything on that front, Nokia has always been built like a Mercedes; it's usually tough and reliable but wont give you the latest and greatest trends.
Ive been a windows/nokia fan for as long as it lasted for that reason; no matter how cheap or old your WP was, ti would never hang in a call or slow down to be unusable like it routinely happens with cheap android phones or old iphones,.. hope they stick to the formula now.
