It's happening to me too after Oreo update
After disable glance option from display, the problem disappeared until now.
It has been communicating with the support section of the Nokia (By support App) and reporting the problem
They promised to solve the problem in an update, but they needed more than one communication of the problem

The reviewer is rather an amator. Most of his comments and complains you would expect from kids, or people that do not have to much idea about devices, let's say...technology in general. Blames a device for things that generally have nothing to do with Nokia, but more with the unstable 8.0 system. throws words he does not understand and has not one idea how to compare, thus sounding more like a child who likes a trendy toy and does not want to try others, so he finds no real motive to claim his toy is better but cry's about how other toys are not in trend anymore. But what i always say, a spoiled kid cannot be satisfied in anyway, tomorrow he will find another trendy toy for you to buy. At the end of the review, the amator sound is still their, actually it never goes away. From battery to screen to whatever... is making peoples eyes hurt from so much lack of profesionalism. After 4 weaks of using this device, the only good pointed out by this kid, is the slow focusing in the dark. And that's about it. The rest is a mix of “i have no idea what i am talking about“ (i like 18:9 amoled screens better) and "i do not know what device i just reviewd" (i like glass back, uh is cool).

what a lame long term review :-( A long term review should talk about stuff that you cannot see in a handset when released, things like updates, how the device has held up over time, some images of the old handset as it is now, antenna performance, improvements provided in updates to vendor apps, like camera etc.. how many times it has been dropped etc.. etc...
I don't see any of it in this review.
I have been using this handset since it's release in my country, I can easily say it is one of the best handset I have used. it has never failed me. not a single call drop inspite of medium signal strength, battery life is amazing. It has always given me a single day's battery life whatever may be the usage. it never gets hot. I have got the security updates on time. yes camera performance could be better but I get splendid macro shots. one of the best I have seen in an Android since a long time, I like the size of this device inspite of the big bezels. bluish tint is not a big problem compared to many of the Amoleds out there.
Which handset out there can give a 7 hours screen on time after 6 months of regular updates and usage. I had a one plus 5 before this, I would anyday keep this handset over the oneplus 5

AnonD-669148, 04 Feb 201818:9 is SMALLER than 16:9!
18:9 looks horrible, too narrow... moreReally? What about keyboard usage or navigation bar, for example? They eat too much sppace, 1:2 screens fixes it a little at least. If you think ALL 1:2 screens are too small, you don't know what are you talking about. Look at zte nubia 17 and 17s. The same width.
I understand how fake brand fans and hmd employee defending it's chinaphones, but let's say true - remove "nokia" and you will get average chinaphone with classic issues but overpriced too much. Your fake brand company just cannot do anything great - because they don't do anything. But marketing and sell. All other doing Foxconn. What they will do - that's what you'll get.

18:9 is SMALLER than 16:9!
18:9 looks horrible, too narrow/thin/small!
16:9 without bezels would be perfect, but then Samsung... could not fool customers with a bigger diagonal number even though the screen is actually smaller, you are fooled to pay more while you get less screen!

HMD could just bring back Pureview and overkill camera specs and fast image processing and call it a day. #808 #950 #1020

Sonyuser85, 03 Feb 2018An infected placebo one cannot be rescued like a disk drive... moreDid you actually zoom in on those links? The Sony one has bad dynamic range, it's all black in the middle, and then you call the N8's image grainy? At least you see what's in the shadows. The other Sony one is taken in sunlight, that's easy for any phone. Better check some comparisons on Smartcam Club or by Steve Litchfield. I remember borrowing a Sony Ericsson Aino which was supposed to be great - it was great, in daylight. In my room with the light on, it just made a dark photo, the same for most phones until I tried a Nokia N97, it simply snapped a normal photo even without flash. I did have a Sony Ericsson K800 before, that one was alright but just 3 MP.
Nobody who knows about photography takes SE cameras too seriously, all the Z1, Z2 etc had excessive artificial sharpening, too much noise reduction and boosted colors. That's not a clean photo. When you take a photo with an N8 or 808 you get a photo that's a bit pale and not too sharpened but clean. It's realistically the most faithful you can get from the sensor. Then, you can load it in Gimp or Photoshop and do whatever you want with it. With Sony (or many other phones) photos you can't, as the photo is already ruined by Sony's processing. Basically, you can get the Sony's photo from a Nokia's photo, but not the other way round.

So far I can't say I agree about the performance - it has been pretty consistent. Oreo caused some jitteriness after like 180 hours of uptime, which was fixed by simply rebooting the device. Not good, but not a disaster either. It seems so far Oreo 8.1.0 beta has fixed battery life issues as well as the occasional jitters pretty much (so far the only issue with 8.1 beta has been broken music Equalizer - it just does not apply any settings anymore). Annoying, but not a disaster. Hopefully they release next beta soon with February security patch that fixes Equalizer.
In terms of camera and the fingerprint scanner, I fully agree with the interviewer. Modded Gcam app by cstark improves the camera quality quite a bit compared to the Nokia app. The noise is still there, but the HDR+, the colors, low-light photography, focusing and the app itself is a lot better than Nokia's. Hopefully they fix the software.
Right now Nokia 8 can be had for as low as 449 euros unlocked, for that price it is damn good deal, and cheaper than OnePlus 5T and is pretty competitively priced. It's a good phone and good first try, lets hope they learn from this and Nokia 8 (2018) will have killer camera, smaller bezels, better fingerprint scanner and bigger battery.

Carol, 03 Feb 2018You are a placebo man. That device, which i still have, had... moreAn infected placebo one cannot be rescued like a disk drive that has been scratched and cannot rewrite on it. You are doing the same. I am not a troll. Look at this:
Before N8 was launched Sony had best 5 mp sensors:
https://www.esato.com/phonephotos/viewphotos.php?pid=62845&uid=215793
From Z to XZ premium, Sony had this special hidden manual camera feature having best 8-12mp shots:
https://www.esato.com/phonephotos/viewphotos.php?pid=87106&uid=201418
And this old and grainy N8:
https://www.esato.com/phonephotos/viewphotos.php?pid=89223&make=Nokia&model=N8-00+powered+by+ShutterPro
Not to mention that most of Nokia phones were having so much lag in every aspect. My friends are a living proof. Anyways have fun with your placebo...

Why does your main Nokia 8 review generally praise the cameras and the slickness of the phone? I have to say, my phone remains slick but the camera isn't as good as my old LG G4.

These are the lines from Nokia 8 review by gsmarena team.
beast and we didn't even need benchmarks to confirm this. A smartphone that packs the latest hardware is destined to be powerful even with the worst software optimizations crippling its performance. Luckily, the Nokia 8 aces this department as well - it's one of the smoothest and fastest smartphones we've seen this year, if not the best. It runs cool under pressure, has no lag when switching apps, and the whole interface feels more fluid than, say, Galaxy S8 or even the OnePlus 5.
If we could pick an Android flagship for the most responsive user experience, it will be probably the Nokia 8. Granted, that's a strong claim - remember, we're saying this before we've tested the Galaxy Note 8 and IFA 2017 and the season's announcements are still around the corner.
But it's true, the Nokia 8 is a pleasure to use. It benefits from a pure and lightweight Android OS, without any extra services or bloatware. Having as little as proprietary software tricks has surely helped the Nokia 8 feel this smooth, but top-of-the-line chipset is surely helping too.
I did not understand why they differ from their opinion now about the performance of Nokia 8

Sonyuser85, 03 Feb 2018At that time Sony had Elm, Hazel, X10 mini with the same 5m... moreYou are a placebo man. That device, which i still have, had the best camera in those times. I owned and used a lot of devices, and that small thin had the best camera, hands down! So, stop using your placebo mind on trolling Nokia cause it ain't cut it boy, Nokias had and still have best cameras.
