sh1un1k, 02 Feb 2018It is an annoying phone, you haven't noticed other key prob... moreI have this device and nothing you said, is true🙄. Either you do not have it, have a defect piece, or you have no clue how to wor with android. Especially when updating from a system version to another(it is called, allways format it after big updates like oreo update). It is quite a beast at a normal price.

"You won't ever get those inky, pitch blacks on an LCD, and the Nokia 8's is no exception."
This statement about the blackness of OLED blacks is repeated without thought. Many recent OLED displays, including some highly-praised ones from Samsung, actually have a dark grey substrate rather than black, so with the pixels turned off that's what you get. In a dark room it will appear black, of course, and a patch of it surrounded by lit pixels will appear black by comparison, but a mainly black image in daylight definitely is not "inky, pitch black". I wonder whether phrases like this have just become "accepted wisdom" and hence repeated irrespective of reality?

I have a Nokia 8, after using a Galaxy S8 for months.
Generally I tend to agree with your reviews and conclusions but must say this one seems a little off the mark.
Having used the Nokia 8 with dual SIM, Parallel Space - an app known for using too much battery - and intensive work and personal use, I really do not see the performance issue of lagging you reported. Quite the contrary, in fact, these were sort of common on the S8 under same use.
I also use Nova Launcher, and it performs very well.
Regarding the cameras, that's an area I can't comment much, unfortunately, as I haven't been using it much. The S8 has stellar camera performance and when I got the Nokia 8 I was prepared to get a loss in this area. That's something I'll have to wait to see.

Anonymous, 03 Feb 2018I also have a Nokia 8. I agree to your point. NO lag wahtse... moreYep, camera is slow, but the big update that is supposed to bring new camera app and new algorithms developed with Zeiss hopefully polish things up.
The only thing except camera that bothers me is a fingerprint scanner. I don't understand why they made it so small.

Even without Xenon it's still making cleaner photos that most phones today. Sony never had a decemt camera apart from placebo 20 megapixels, and everyone who uses Sony sensors has better results than Sony itself. You're just trolling.

6 second to take a picture... Jesus... I think Nokia N95 was waster than that...
Not to mention that my Huawei P9 with quick start option can take picture in 0.9 second... P10 of my brother can take it in 0.7s for most of time...

But Nokia wasn't better as took shot by shot comparison with different other models of other brands. There is a confusion between being the first to implement and the best implementation. Nokia will always remain first one to implement, but not the best implementation in the international market of electronics.

If someone want in their obsession for Nokia to ignore some facts, please go back in time in GsmArena's reviews and also Esato camera collection and see that at least camera was never something special at Nokia except 808 model having, a big fat quality sensor. Zeiss and Xenon was all the time compared to no Zeiss other phone cameras at that time.
So Nokia now compared to the Shakespearean King Lear wanting to regain its crown after many technological bluffs and financial mistakes.

MdN8, 03 Feb 2018Not quite. The 808 even had a separate processor just for i... moreAt that time Sony had Elm, Hazel, X10 mini with the same 5mp sensor made by Toshiba (close sensor design to N95), they didn't have Zeiss lens or any kind of special processing, but that was fist time in my life to believe a tiny camera phone can compete with real photography at least on day light. After a few months Nokia released N8 with another crazy placebo effect to its fans and customers adding a 12 mp but with poor results, results that were very close to this model 8 (same Nokia 8 ~ N8 ghost - coincidence or not also 12 mp). The only BIG difference at that time was the high quality blitz and the shots taken indoors with it, that no other brand had on the international market (Sony had 'at home'). That placebo effect of Zeiss and Xenon Flash nowadays will never have the same 'wow' on the world. Sadly this device (Nokia 8) is a real proof that Nokia was an insignificant (only-me) electronics designer at least regarding camera and battery component without its asian partners (with Microsoft and its american partners Nokia was transforming the pure view in pure garbage). Nokia died a long time ago, and no Snake game and no one week battery backup will ever be a must have nowadays for 'connecting people'. NOkia now wants to revive a placebo factor that other companies are doin it so well. This device regarding speed cannot even be comparted to XA1 no to mention XZ premium.
