Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact review

17 March 2018
It's once again peak smartphone season and Sony is next to join the annual spring race. But while others do regular and plus-size models, Sony, as usual, is going towards the other end of the spectrum with the new Xperia XZ2 Compact.

jrharbort, 20 Mar 2018Since when has 88+ hour endurance for just a 2870mAh batter... moreBattery endurance is highly overrated . These days very slim 20,000 mAh power banks are easily available at very cheap prices.

The XZ1C was bigger than the Z5C this thing is bigger than the XZ1C, I don't like this trend and surely neither does anyone else they're aiming "compact" phones at. Sony should be reducing the bezel size, yes - but only to make the phones smaller; screen size is fine!

I only bought an XZ1C 6 months ago so when this was announced I felt maybe I should have waited - but actually I'm pretty glad I didn't. I use my headphone socket, and I appreciate being able to unlock my phone without picking it up. 1080p is pointless on a screen this size too.

Sony losing on the ground, can't keep on other rival.
Try to lower your price point.

The comments here outnumber those for the Samsung S9+ review (63 comments). The Sony XZ2 review has 334 comments so far.
What are the reasons Sony phones have so many comments whenever they are reviewed?

Imperator Neubaticus, 19 Mar 2018This compact fails at being compact and has poor battery li... moreSince when has 88+ hour endurance for just a 2870mAh battery in a flagship phone been considered "poor"? No other flagship can manage that endurance with a battery under 3000mAh.

This compact fails at being compact and has poor battery life to show for all its small improvements. Biggest disappointment of the year so far. How low sony has fallen.

Kiyasuriin, 19 Mar 2018Haha yes. It is ironic. Technically Sony invented the 3.5mm... moreAt least their bold move to wireless connection makes a lot more sense than how others did it.
With the lack of headphone jack, they have LDAC; a wireless connection that is superior to BT5.0 and aptx HD in terms of pure quality (990Kbps, to be exact).

Also, among the manufacturers that removed the jack, they were the only one to offer USB C charging/data transfer and 3.5mm jack simultaneously. Sad, but I guess it is what it is. Nonetheless, their audio quality has improved since this XZ2 genera tion

Love the old sharp edges and the audio jack 3,5mm, it is a shame that Sony abandoned them.
I appreciate the bezels, (in fact, I hate bezelless phones) and the absence of notch . But the new chubby design is a major let down to me.

you shouldn't really compare this compact phone with its predecessors, IMHO, but rather with the current market situation and all other phone makers! time is passing my friend... and today a 5" phone flagship IS compact!
