LG V40 ThinQ review

16 November 2018
Why choose between ultra wide and telephoto, when you can have both? That’s precisely what LG thought when designing the V40 ThinQ, the first smartphone to go both wider and longer than ‘normal’.

              SD845 is abe to record 4K HDR10.
I don't know why only LG chose to offer this.
It is better than 4K60 SDR....

The 4K HDR of XZ2 is different, higher category. It needs the DRAM inside the sensor.

I just read that someone posted on a asian forum ( it does not look weibo to me) that next Xperia flagship may have 4K60 HDR and 6K video.

Not worth the money for such low battery life. No point in the DAC and all that if the phone does not last long enough to enjoy, also it takes too long to charge for a 3300mah battery.

If anything, it's me who needs to beg for apologies for sounding a bit too harsh when explaining. I just wanted to push my point in a way that the other people would take it for granted.
But yeah, the team must've forgotten to put a bit more details in the audio part, but that's maybe because its loudspeaker isn't really a highlight of this phone, and so it doesn't really need an in-depth analysis of it.

Battery life is stellar as well. While it's not quite as robust as the 4,000mAh Note 9 or even the 3,500mAh Galaxy S9+, the V40 makes the most of its 3,300mAh battery, easily powering through a full day. I couldn't get an accurate benchmark rating due to compatibility issues with PCMark's software, but real-world results were quite good. On some days it even gave those phones a run for their money. You could chalk it up to the usual year-over-year improvements, but it also speaks to LG's focus with the V40. With the same battery capacity as the V30, LG has managed to squeeze noticeably more life with the V40, and it runs circles around the G7. Test pcworld.

Anonymous, 17 Nov 2018Mono speaker again. Its stereo but since the earpiece is not loud enough they sticked to mono speaker in official spec something mate20pro didnt and its earpiece "2nd speaker" is also very quiet and tiny sound. There you have 1000eur phone with no stereo speakers.

They might not be impressed because of how basic it sounds, but isn't anything bad as to the point of being a disappointment.
Besides, they didn't really imply that the speaker is bad by any means.

If the presence of Hi-Fi Quad DAC doesn't impress you, then maybe you'd appreciate the significantly more powerful amp instead.

And talking about phablets, the Mate 20 Pro is better at everything than the V40 ThinQ, except in the area where its opponent is known for; great audio quality!
If you're after the solid all-rounder, the Note 9 is still the one to beat. You'd only miss out the super wide angle lens, but you'd be hard pressed to find a major deal breaker on it.
