05 April 2019
The Once and Future King of mobile photography - the PureView camera - is back! The Nokia's champion has lived through the twilights of Symbian and Windows Phone, to be once again reborn in the peak of Android era. HMD's Nokia 9 is the bearer of the next-gen PureView snapper, and it's not one, but whole six of them!

ZolaIII, 07 Apr 2019This happened already: https://m.gsmarena.com/apples_lcd_s... moreAll companies that use IP68 on their phones want camera behind transparent screen.
It is only possible with oled, not microLED.

Play a video on XZ2 Premium, it is stunning. Much better experience than many phones with oled.

I do not know why ppl have this fetish for pure black. It is not real.
You can look at many stuff at home that are black, none of them is pure black.

Shanti Dope, 07 Apr 2019Right, but between Samsung and LG, I pick LG because their ... moreNokia 808was the only RGB oled so far.
All display makers use pentile oled because it can resist more time against burn in compared to RGB ....

The screens with the widest colour gamut are the LCD of Xperia.
According to colour chart of Phone Arena, XZ2 has the widest gamut among all devices.
    It can reach 152% sRGB. S10 is 142%. Iphone X has 100%.

They don't rewrite/adapt their... moreI am not sad for them I'm just saying they were saving time and cost rewritting for latest SoC would require alot of time pushing launch to Q3 or Q4 and they already delayed it alot so they didn't bother

so it's a camera phone with just avarage camera performance? and in top of that, with a buggy software? wow, just wow, "nokia"

LCDs of today back lit simply can not compete with OLED's. VA LED panels simply don't have wide look angles even with quantum dot layer and that is primary reason you won't find them on mobile devices all do they have much better contrast compared to the rest of LCDs. Even Sony switched to OLED's for it's premium offering, TCL had one of three best ever made VA panel's last year. Future is micro led preferable by me on full developed substrate blue led then coated for other two colours (red and green) with micro film layers, but there are other options like white coated individual for RGB to produce WRGB which is more power efficient... While we aren't there yet its been intensively been worked on it as industry also needs more power/cost efficient panels especially for mobile & wearables.

Shanti Dope, 07 Apr 2019So by that, it means that high refresh rate OLEDs will only... moreI read that article about exploring possibility to use plane copper but it's still on the long run. 50 FPS is enough when you don't go under it! You blink all the time and you aren't aware of it. Some pool downs or ups are tricky but still if refresh stays on 50 Hz you won't be able to see anything. Problem is when it goes down under that limit but if it had high refresh rate before slowdown happens their is bigger possibility it won't deep so much or at least not so fast but high refresh rate panels are very un efficient and use much more resources (GPU, DSP, RAM & CPU) to obviously maintain high refresh rate. Qure is better buffer (usually triple) syncing and faster memory subs. On 60 Hz panel when you start an app you have initial cuple of seconds when it drives it on 40~45 frames before hitting 50+ so 90 Hz panel would be optimal so that the start happens above 50 frames & it would still use 25~30% less resources than 120 Hz one. For VR with single display of course refresh needs to be doubled...

Dont use screen with so many pixels if you cant afford to put decent battery into your phone.

Someone's nose will grow a few meters. Too many fake pseudo buyers around here. It's fun to see that a phone that was supposed to be good for photography is now sold as a useful display... It's not worth more than 1/3 of what they ask for.

Samsung and LG uses evaporation method.
It costs more, it is slower and much more material is wasted.

                                    Panasonic uses inkjet printing.
Cheaper, faster and waste of materials is decreased.
Sadly they cant produce enough through JOLED

ZolaIII, 06 Apr 2019It will be cheaper thanks to new players (mostly Chinese); ... moreJDi just got investmemt from chinese company, not owned by them.
Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi together have 30%.
The rest belongs to another japanese company.

Samsung sells cameras sensors, prices did not go down.
LG and BOE are selling oled but price is still high.

People wrongly thinks that simple oled is better than an expensive LCD. Flagships from Oppo,Vivo, Motorola and OnePlus that use cheaper oled will never give better image quality than a high end LCD phone from Sony or LG.
Some phones with oled are tested here and show delta above 5, even for a LCD this value is bad.

Samsung has LCD TVs, not oled.
Sony considers the LCD Z series their flagship, not the Bravia oled.
