Exyvia, 19 Sep 2019Especially when they're willingly ignorant to the fact.
... moreHere you have 2 monitors of the same size, with somewhat the same technology (here 144Hz, freesync, IPS) you have only 10% power difference here between a 2k and a 4k screen (that is 4 time more pixel):
https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews...tro_xv273k.htm
https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews...rus_ad27qd.htm
and here is a 2k monitor that drain 15% more energy than the 4k, without the 144Hz, nor any adaptative sync: https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews...ips-zero-g.htm So it only depend of the quality of the pannel, and for monitor, of all the bonus you add in the software, internal chipset etc.
And as stated in the quora link, lcd works differently due to it's technologie, and in this case, it's perfectly understandable that a 4k screen would consume slightly more. But for Oled, the power drain could be completely the same.

The only good thing about this phone is XZ1 Compact should be much cheaper now. No 3.5mm headphone jack and weird unnecessarily long aspect ratio.
Kudos for them anyway for the efforts.

Anonymous, 19 Sep 2019Your link did not give the wattage.ELI5: You got (2x2) 4 people arranged in a square, you need to tell everyone individually what colour shirt to wear. So you walk up to everyone one by one telling them what colour.
Now if you got 4x4 square, 16 people, it takes more energy to tell everyone. That's basically how a monitor works.
Quick google got me two 27 inch monitors, 4K and QHD. Both with 300 nitts of brightness and IPS panel type.

TL;DR 4k panel with 36W typical and 2k with 30W

Another phone that is insanely expensive vs the competition. No innovation just a copy and paste job of an older phone to confuse the buyers.
A manufacturer that provides the industry with camera sensors has a poor DXO rating and over processes their images.
Sony still playing catchup but being left behind.

"The not so great bit is that the 5 didn't manage to build on the 1's decent but uninspiring performance with headphones. Some intermodulation distortion crept in, the stereo crosstalk rose more than average and the volume went down to below average too. Good enough for most people overall, but not great for a flagship."
This explains why 3.5mm jack is SUPERIOR compared to USB-C to 3.5mm dongle. Come on Sony, for that price, there is more than enough space for the 3.5mm jack!!

Even though i don't use Sony phones anymore, i'm still sad to see them stubbornly launching phones that don't meet their fans expectations.

Anonymous, 19 Sep 2019You don't make any sense. A phone with the same screen size... moreNo , it wont.
Does not matter the resolution apps run, you still have 4x more pixels being used.

VectorR, 19 Sep 2019There is a logical explanation for this. Sony don't want Xp... moreCellphones cannot compete against cameras.
Photo from a compact RX100 are 20x better than any cellphone.

Clarification from Sony regarding image sensor: It does not have 960fps but it does indeed have predictive capture.
To do so sensor must be stacked but it has less overall buffer memory.

To those who said that the average endurance is great but it WOULD'VE been better if they increase more mah, stop. Increasing the battery means hundreds of millions of yen are wasted because of battery mooks like you. Less is more guys. Less is more.

Hildr, 19 Sep 2019Why not just do portrait with the x2 lens without the fake ... moreAll phones hve fake bokeh.
The f1.6 on 1/2.6" is like f10 on FF.
It cannot blur background physically.

By the way how do you measure compactness GSMA?
For me compactness simply means the width.. The mi9se with 70.7mm width can't replace this phone at 68mm width regardless of the elongated 21:9 ratio..
