The MI 10 Pro has just been released. Give it 2-3 months, it will surprise you with the quality.

Nick Tagataka, 09 Apr 2020After looking at photos taken by this regular P40, I'm even... moreThey are too focused on updating the Huawei app gallery and still haven't recovered from being boycotted by Google.
Even in videos, the AIS is turned on by default with no way to turn it off, giving regular videos weird artifacts in low light.

Anonymous, 09 Apr 2020So you compare pixel 4 gcam processing to Huawei p40 pro? ... moreIts the closest option comparison that can get. Unless you can show one. If not its nonsense. U can find comments below GCAM even worsen in some situation.

It can definitely show more details & wider DR, but it will always has a downgrade part. Do you own one to begin with? Or judging just by watching some indian Youtuber?

Huawei got Light Painting, Silky Smooth & Milkyway mod for that certain purposes.

Sxz, 09 Apr 2020Who still buy this crap without gms and bootloader unlocking?Plenty of people in China probably although I doubt if it will sell as well as the p30. Basically this and the s20 are the only small fairly high end phones and there are quite a few people who still want a compact phone. The s20 is 6999rmb versus 4199rmb for this which is a very big price gap. Huawei's software also has way more practical features for Chinese users too so Samsung always has very bad sales. No phone has Google services in China so this doesn't matter.

Who still buy this crap without gms and bootloader unlocking?

"Well, the separation is proficient, which is good, but there are little to no changes in the background and the camera relies mostly on its shallow depth of field to do the trick. Meaning the variable aperture mode is rather obsolete"

GSMArena, if you get too close to the subject then aperture mode will not work. Take some distance from what you want to capture then you will see it in action.

After looking at photos taken by this regular P40, I'm even more confused with the company's decision to crop the sensor and then upscale the image back to 12.5MP.
I always thought the reason behind it is that they wanted to give more headroom for EIS and get rid of corner distortions. However, unlike the Pro variant, P40's lens is tack sharp across the frame and it has no visible distortion whatsoever, hence there should be absolutely no need to perform a crop in the first place. Kirin 990's ISP supports up to a 64MP sensor so it's nothing to do with processing speed either.

I expect a sincere explanation on this matter from Huawei, this makes no bloody sense to me at all.

Anonymous, 09 Apr 2020Every camera has night mode which enhances images to a diff... moreHard to say which is best without having and using all the phones yourself. What's best will differ for different tastes

Anonymous, 09 Apr 2020Photos from the p40 series are just too unnatural. Huawei ... moreCare to explain that "filter look" you're talking about? Completely distorting scenes.. uh, am I in a wrong review page?

"Lot of artifacts in low light videos"
Only in extreme low light where all every other phone straight up fail to expose the scene properly, not quite sure if that's a huge problem to begin with.

                      "Focus hunting issues"
Never seen it, could you share some examples?

"AIS turned on by default with no way to get rid of it"
EIS is forced on other phones from many other companies including Apple, Google, Oppo, Xiaomi etc. It's good to have an option to turn it off like you do on the latest Galaxy, but the lack of this feature is still not an inconvenience for majority of potential buyers.

"chromatic aberrations around light sources in low light"
It's barely noticeable though, and there are other factors that need to be taken into consideration to make a judgement on this matter, such as lens quality. Some algorithms emphasises chromatic aberration regardless of the CFAs so it's not even an issue that is specific to RYYB filter anyway (e.g. https://fdn.gsmarena.com/imgroot/reviews/20/samsung-galaxy-s20-ultra/review/lowlight/gsmarena_155.jpg).

Anonymous, 09 Apr 2020Every camera has night mode which enhances images to a diff... more"Find X2 pro has the best night mode"
I'm not so sure about that, actually. Oppo's night mode apparently falls flat on its face when there's a strong backlight behind the subject (like shown in DxOMark's reviews), and while it's stills far ahead of their previous night mode implementation, it's not flawless and certainly shows its weakness under complex lighting.

Desaturated colors with strange white balance and rather slow processing, stock camera is miles better in most situations if not in all.

As design P40 looks better than ugly curve of P40 pro and funny thing the OLED of P40 more brighter than P40 pro 90hz OLED panel!.

1/1.28" sensor vs 1/2.3"? That's a totally fair comparison, isn't it? Why not compare it with 1/1.33" smartphone?
Gcam on the 108mp sensor of Xiaomi wipes the floor with everything in its segment.

Both p40 and p40pro have less endurance rating than p30pro-mate30 pro.

Go into lowlight, looks how worse GCAM image processing are compared to Huawei. So no, using GCAM on Huawei phones are useless, when its own image processing are way superior.
