Shui8, 22 Aug 2021To you it means nothing. You are not the targeted consumer.Who is the targeted consumer? The folding display does absolutely nothing but break the phone in a few months and leave it prone to scratches! This isn't like the superior Fold that unfolds to reveal a larger display, or those few rollable displays that are peak-innovation. This is some piece of trash that turns into a twice-as-thick brick for putting into your pocket.

I love how they spend few good sentences about scrolling habits and just one small mention about durability of the screen... most important thing here.
Im not saying that you should stab that screen to see what damages you make, but damn, at least some mentions how screen react to eg, fingernail push compared to previous model, does opening it with one hand leaf any mark on the side? does dust/stuff gather after few weeks/days caring in pocket? how it react to pushing screen tad more when eg. playing games?

Anonymous, 21 Aug 2021He is a Sony boy hating on foldables until Sony launches one It's hard to be overly confident yet corny at the same time, but you really managed to pull that off. Be right back, really dying from too much laughter right now. I don't even remember being a so-called "Sony boy". 🤣😂🤣😂

Anonymous, 21 Aug 2021They will never solve the crease and display physical prote... moreThat is why I still prefer the dual-display solution like LG's DualScreen case since there are absolutely zero creases to talk about, plus with an added bonus of being detachable. Motorola seems to get the whole foldable screen technology right but it's still too expensive to own one, not forgetting the really limited market availability and the absence of Galaxy Z Fold rival.

fantastic folded size.. just excellent, I hate the brick feeling in pocket.
120Hz is a must, no discussion here.
As we witness ZFlip3 is not such crippled flagship as ZFlip2 was (mono speakers, USB2, 60Hz etc), which i've returned after 1 day (final nail in coffin was the 90's like slow USB copying of firmware to be processed by Magisk®)..
Still i want this one, but already looking for ZFlip4 with SPen®.
So ZFlip3 is now a semi-crippled flagship with the following issues:
- Galaxy S7 like cameras - that is year 2016!!!
- Galaxy S5 like charging - that is year 2014!!!
- Galaxy S6 like wireless charging - that is year 2015!!!
- Galaxy S7 like battery capacity - with nowadays WAY bigger consumption, much bigger screen etc
- Galaxy S7 like no DEX/HDMI, the last DeX-free flagship!
Puzzling how they go backwards often... Inventing disfunctional fingerprint under display (>S10), totally late with charging game (25W or difunctional 45w max).. and ship trash Exynos CPUs to many unhappy users across the world.
If this was a classic phone, it'd have to cost 400$ max. So you pay 600$ for the folding mechanism.
Now the battery result here is outright horrible. Oooof... standby horrid, browsing horrid, video horrid. Let me take a break before I buy it.

Macaulay Culkin, 21 Aug 2021Just pre-ordered mine. Should arrive by August 27. Ordered ... moreI want to get the Z Flip 3 because it evokes memories of my using a Sanyo SCP-5500 seventeen years ago. My girlfriend and I bought those phones in October of 2003 and had a blast using those. The SCP-5500 was one of the first phones to allow sending 15 second video clips to a compatible phone. The SCP-5300s we had the year before only permitted sending snapshots back and forth. The novelty of both of those phones in that era was something to enjoy. Secondly, several years ago I was taken with a high-end Samsung flip phone that wasn't available in The United States. Now, in just five days I'll have the Z Flip 3 to enjoy for its unique qualities and the nostalgia it will evoke. I just wonder how I will feel about the new phone several months down the road(?)

joe nodden, 22 Aug 2021Since when is $1000 even remotely reasonable. The gimmick o... moreThat's conditioning. A few years ago when top-spec phones obliterated the $1000 price point it seemed like the sky had become the limit. Now some backpedaling is going on to make it seem like paying a thousand bucks for a phone is no big deal. A $1600 phone looks like something that some individuals will be willing to stretch to obtain; shave a few other expenses to afford the big-ticket phone. I'm thinking that in two years a top-spec Z Fold 5 with 1TB of storage will be over $2000. It'd better be good for at least three years.

Hmm. I'm putting a perfectly serviceable Galaxy Note10 Plus out to pasture to get the base Z Flip 3 in black just for the fun and nostalgia factor. A Note20 Ultra will become the workhorse while I'm out.
Looking to get a Z Fold 4 next year although in retirement I may not need to encumber myself carrying two phones and a spare each time I step out of the house. If Samsung had seen fit to bring out a spec-laden Note21 SuperExtraPlusUltra I would probably have gone in that direction. A Note Series Phone had become an end-of-summer ritual in just a few short years even with what happened to the Note7 five years ago.
Two years down the road it could be that a Z Fold 5 might be the answer to my multiple phone-carrying situation. By 2023 I would hope/believe/think that a 1TB Z Fold 5 wouldn't be to much to ask for. Something as I'm describing is what I aspire to in two years time. We'll see.

It seems most of you by phones just to others talk about. I bet you do the same with cars, clothes and houses.
Just live your life. No one cares what you have.
Rule number one: If you like it anda can afford it, BUY IT.
Rule number two: BUY IT for you, not for others.
Rule number three: Just live your life and be happy.

joe nodden, 22 Aug 2021You're literally one of the people I'm talking about. lol. I get it. When I had my Mi Mix, I thought it would change the way people looked at cell phones. Nobody cared. Two years after I moved on to the PH-1 a co-worker asked me about the phone and admitted he was a little jealous because of the bezeless design. He's the same person that used to tease me about my spy phone from China. An isheep. Of course.
I don't doubt people feel a difference, but you also have to trust there are people that don't feel the effects enough in their limited use to have a lasting impact. 120hz should not need a sales pitch. The experience should sell itself. Again, a month from now I may be right there with you.

pay more to get a lot less. this could have been a nice conventional smartphone at $500-$700 as some will want smaller width phones.

Anonymous, 21 Aug 2021I can tell they have zero interest in this kind of phone.
... moreFoldables are here to stay... Haters of the Galaxy Note series said the same during their first few versions. It went on to become one of the most popular series from Samsung.
Foldables are only going to get better. Sony has no interest in making foldable? They don't even have the expertise to sell their own phones. They barely making any profits. A flop device like foldable from Sony would mean they'll just stop making smartphones altogether.
Mark your words??? 😁 LOL who is going to remember the words of some anonymous guy?
You don't even have a real account..

Om, 21 Aug 2021Thats why apple invented promotion 5 years ago on the ipad ... more(1) You say "invented" as though ProMotion is some original thing. It's literally just variable refresh rate. Nvidia did that back in 2013.
(2) That's beside the point here. These guys are acting like 120hz isn't worth it.

Just pre-ordered mine. Should arrive by August 27. Ordered it from the Samsung site to get the $150 credit.
Wanted cream. Then saw the cases for it. Went with phantom black to match the case. Not waiting an extra 12 days for the cream. My last flip phone, RAZR V3, was in matte black too.
Can't wait. My first phone I'm buying after 15 years. Haven't used a RAZR since December 2007. Flip3 is not the best phone of 2021 but it's the one more people want.
