Here comes along a phone with everything I want, and it costs as much as my gaming PC.

It looks nice, but it is it $1700 nice?

    good

Some of the cons they mentioned in the review feels like nitpicking

I don't like the fact that all these phones are over $1k, but at least I feel like I get the most complete phone with Sony's offering since it gives me things like a headphone jack which I use. The argument of "use wireless, wired earphones are outdated" is a weak argument since having the headphone jack doesn't mean I can't use wireless as well.

"I can accept a very high price, but the quality must be top-notch in almost every aspect."

This I can 100% agree with

SuuperBaka, 13 May 2022The S22 Ultra is not an all-rounder phone like this though.... moreYes, it depends on your location. This phone starts with 256 GB, though. The 512 GB model will probably cost not less than $1,500. In my location, when an Xperia 1 is available, I can buy a Galaxy S Ultra for about $900 to $1,000. I can accept a very high price, but the quality must be top-notch in almost every aspect.

It's a good phone for sure, but it doesn't have the headphone jack and SD card slot, which is something important to me. Also, the S22 Ultra 256GB is like 1300 USD without rebates and the S22+ is 1400 CAD. This phone is 512GB + SD card. This phone can definitely still be improved, but it's not a bad phone at all.

            It depends on the region.

This is a good all-rounder phone, the price is a bit high, but not that far off from the competition tbh. I might either get this or maybe wait a year to see the Xperia 1V see if they add that new sensor tech on their phones. They probably couldn't add that to this since they were already working on this previously, but that new sensor tech along with the next-gen CPU is gonna be the top-tier phone.

"Long story short, the Xperia 1 IV is a powerful phone, but it throttles quite fast after half an hour of gaming. Of course, it is so powerful that you won't probably notice this now, but it may get annoying down the road eventually."

Please go watch some gameplays on youtube.

Interesting phone with good industrial design. I like the matte body. Things I really do not like are the hybrid only dual sim (at least you can get 512gb internally) and no fm-radio. I also do not need the 4K screen and would rather prefer longer battery life and a wider display. No notch and flat display are a plus. Why not have rectangular corners? If the Sony would bring a stylus or digitizer on the table I would buy it as I finally would have a successor to my Samsung Note 9 with headphone jack... Maybe in the next generation... Would like to support Sony...

600-650 nits is fine for majority.
And 4K is not gimmick. Apart from the peak brightness, Sony has the best display. Period.

vrvly, 13 May 20221IV is actually sharper than 1III/5III, can be also seen on... moreI don't think those who care about a dedicated camera like experience would like a tele lens that always produces soft image because of quality issue, or 'only' 12MP resolution that is terrible for recomposition and cropping.

If I want to spend more time on shooting photos I'll reach out to my a6009. If I want a quick snapshot photo that looks good enough for SNS then my Pixel 6 Pro will do just that for me, with its great wide and tele cameras

S22 and iPhone 13 Pro does reach peak flagship but not the Sony. Sony is missing out too much.

BrendonF, 13 May 2022The Samsung 22 Ultra also lacks a charger in the boxDoesn’t matter if there’s charger or not, nor a 3.5mm jack. What is appaling is the price, considering the resale value is very poor, with limited aftersales and service support.

Plus, I'm wondering, outside Sony phones/articles, what smartphone brands cause a lot of traffic or hot debate like this? Because Sony is really traffic-magnet for all of us frankly 😕. (saying this as the owner of Original Xperia 1)
