Look at LG flags... moreSony did release QHD(+) devices twice in Xperia's lifetime, with an additional one phone that was canceled due to timing where the grand-ancestor of 1 IV, Z5 Premium was scheduled to arrive. Those two are the Z4 Tablet in 2015 (16:10 QHD), the canceled Verizon-exclusive Z4v (16:9 QHD), and XZ3 in 2018 (18:9 QHD+). Considering the ratio of Xperia devices with QHD and 4K is at 2:9 and Sony already addressed that weren't fond of QHD display, 4K is their to-go top high res display smartphone since Q3 2015 and has become a tradition.

vrvly, 13 May 20221IV is actually sharper than 1III/5III, can be also seen on... moreSuper fast focus makes no sense in that phone with relatively now small sensor of 1/1.76" and 24mm lens. If the subject is away for 1m - the use of that AF face tracking is kinda funny, just showing tracked square onto eye or face, but focus stays pushed to the end all the time.

Like, it has a flagship display, flagship camera system, fastest chip, 5000 mAh battery, victus. Anyways, you could just get 1 Mark 3.

This phone is clearly not for average consumer( specially to those who always complain about the PRICE). Sony has its own race tracks ( It's a rally car not an F1) so no point of comparing spec wise with other brands.

1IV is actually sharper than 1III/5III, can be also seen on how sharp detail is in super wide camera. Couldn't get rid of corner softness though, also going from hi res capable phone, you might miss that extra detail going close to full size cameras.
But, this comes with a benefits for those who understands, fast burst photography, better colors, fast enough AF and eye AF. Those who understands know how important is having good focus capable camera...
Also jack with dseehx is only available on Xperia or 999€ Sony dac, for imagination.
Not for everyone, but for me, good.

The Xperia 1 line is already mediocre enough, and the price was already bad enough. But to raise it even more and NOT have any meaningful or good upgrades was the breaking point for me. And the jack and SD slot will not sway me anymore, not if it comes at the cost of a good phone experience.

Also i really wanted to buy the Sony Xperia 1III the previous year but the horrible Sony software support and the even more awful prices, let me down(and for a lot of people,the horrible resale value matters a lot).
I mean the Sony Xperia 1 III 1year later and costs 1000euros, no thanks Sony.

Sony is not ... moreSony Xperia XZ3 had a 1440p screen back in 2018.
It also had no 3.5mm jack.
And it released with android 9 and only got android 10.
