PPI = √(1096² + 2520²) / 6.5
PPI = √7551616 / 6.5
PPI = 2748 / 6.5
PPI = 422,8

So, when Xperia 1 series rendered the screen at 1096p, the amount of PPI that will be shown during that resolution is 422,8 PPI. You're close though.

        Go back to FHD setting after realising bigger res is the big juice spender, and doesnt benefit them at all.

        And yup, I concur, Sony should keep the 4k screen, but give optional FHD only res on 1 series.
        Then again, with few system tweaks I use on my 5 II also (102 hr), that 100 hr endurance can easily be prolongated to some 130 hr/2 day batterylife, even without sacrificing 4k res.

          [deleted post]Literally only Sony fanboy can come up with the "duuude, get a life" argument when someone points out 4k on 6.5" is a gimmick. Which it is by the way, it's one of those features you try out for a week when you buy the phone and then switch back to 1080p to preserve battery life.

            Of course you won't reply to my other pointing out you are wrong but that doesn't refuse the fact that Xperia 1 IV is literally nothing but an incremental upgrade over 1 III and that still lags behind Galaxy Ultra counterparts in virtually every aspect.

                [deleted post]No throttling, when that thing can't even cool itself in stock condition and is overheating, huh? You surely can help to avoid the issue by undervolting, but somehow that sounds unbelievable. Custom ROM is also necessary, since it wouldn't get updates longer than 2 years, so nice workaround to avoid that issue too. Sony - built to be fixed by user-created workarounds and compromises. :)

                    [deleted post]Even if you use a resolution lower than 4K, if the screen is 4K, it still consumes more battery. Sony Xperia 5 series doesn't use a 4K screen, and the battery life is much better.

                      [deleted post]Nice obsession for a brand you have. Very weird if you ask me, but well - you do you. Also their products are always a compromise. Like their top-of-the-line amplifier which I happen to own, DN-1080... Has a bullshit "room EQ" feature. Other brands offered way better options for the same price range, around 800-900 euros when this was new. The amp also is known for having a ton of software issues that Sony never fixed.

                      Why compromise? More like why try to fix clear software issues. Or why bother to reply to customer service emails from pissed off customers. That's the true Sony experience - no support to speak of, and issues won't be fixed.

                        What is the pixel density when the display is giving out a resolution of 1096 x 2560? Is it above 425ppi?

                          Anonymous, 12 May 2022I don't think that Sony will stop using a 4K resolutio... moreWhen Xperia Pro (2020) is utilized for the proper usage the phone was manufactured for, (not the Pro-I) the 4K will become handy when needed to get close up when you are broadcasting during live streaming, especially in a condition where small details could be useful by the person who monitors the live streaming session to make sure nothing was missed. When live streaming is on a session, there will be a time someone part of the live streaming notice something in the background, and the person who monitors the Xperia Pro display could point that out to the streamer without moving too much. Especially when the type of 4K Sony using this time is Pentile OLED, a departure from 4K IPS LCD in the past, where pentile has 1/3 less pixel density compared to full-fledge RGB LCD or even RGB OLED, 643 PPI could come in handy. Yes, the usage is small and not broad, but it's there when you are aware of the target market for Xperia Pro itself, considering Xperia Pro is the one, if not the most niche Xperia ever. And sure, you can use the connected camera viewfinder to do that, but when most of the control during live streaming is on the Xperia Pro itself, it could be done on the Pro instantaneously.

                          1/3 x 643 PPI = 212.19 PPI
                          643 - 212,19 = 430,81 PPI

                                I must say, I'm impressed. This is my dream phone and entirely for photography reasons. Way better than Samsungs oversaturated overprocessed with stupid amound of HDR and unrealistic blue of the sky and etc... But the price is way too steep.

If anything, the 2018 situation where Sony adopts an almost full mainstream approach, wasn't well-received, the year where Sony phones turned curvy, with half-hearted bezel-less design, fingerprint sensors were put in the back, and removing the 3.5mm jack from the flagship. Flagship XZ2 was dubbed an HTC U11 copycat, while flagship XZ3 was dubbed a Galaxy S9 clone. The best-received Xperia of 2018 was their XA2 Plus, a mid-ranger that adopts the bezel-less approach that Sony fans want. It was so bad, that Sony had to return to a beloved boxy, blocky form factor but with a better bezel-less design alongside the side fingerprint a year after in 2019 since Xperia 1, and the 3.5mm jack returned 2 years after in 2020 in their flagship 1 II.

                                      Sure, the mainstream/trending features that don't ruin Xperia legacy like 120Hz HRR w/wo LTPO tech, wireless charging, faster charging, matte finish phones, etc. should be kept around and improved by Sony. But the ones like 4K (reasons: Z5 Premium's legacy & certain jobs that do need 4K res like the one in Xperia Pro) and 21:9 (reasoning: the sole plausible multimedia-industry standard aspect ratio for modern smartphones era, utilized in movies & multitasking due to Sony Pictures collaboration after Sony restructuration), I think it will stay for a long time as it defined modern Xperia since 2019. And no, I don't condone Sony for removing both the cable & charger on their Mk.IV series.
