No mention of new software update policy, so it's safe to assume Sony still giving only 2 years OS and 3 years security to the Xperia 1 iv. In a time when phones 1/3 the price can get at least 3 years OS and 4 years security, this is a glaring oversight by Sony. Another would be availability like the years past.

AnonD-546724, 11 May 2022Yeah right because S22U comes with a charger, of course. problem is Sony included a charger before and now they don't. Now they seem to be going that way with every other brand like apple and sammy so ofc it is a letdown

I can’t imagine Sony being happy with this pre-production unit being branded as a full review.

Really digging this phone though, might look into it a year or two down the line when the price goes down.

Anonymous, 11 May 2022The display reaches not-so-amazing 680 nits only when using... moreI must disagree with you on the battery life part - Even though the battery endurance score is largely due to good power management during idle, it's still fairly decent given how pixel-dense the display is. It's not amazing, sure, but Sony is at least making a definite improvement to it.

As for all the other points you made, though, I think you're right for the most part. The display is still too dim when using calibrated colour profile (Samsung phones used to have this restriction but that's no longer the case), sustained performance is very disappointing and the telephoto camera falls flat on its face hard. As is always the case, Xperia 5 IV would be a cheaper, more compact alternative with presumably better battery life and lens quality, if it were to be released.

Note9 User, 11 May 2022Yes, & I'm sure it'll cost them more in lost ... moreSony's software update policy is "2 years of software update after launch, with more than 1 OS update included in that period". So expect 2 years of OS updates and security patches.

Sony please stop embarrassing yourself and ruining your reputation. You are no match for the Chinese OEM anymore . Just stick in improving your mobile camera components and call it a quit already.
